annotate lisp/eshell/em-cmpl.el @ 111983:a348c631aeb8
- replace pgg with epg/epa - working version, with no calls to pgg.
- remove passphrase verifier and hinting.
(allout-passphrase-verifier-handling), (allout-passphrase-hint-handling):
No longer used, delete.
(allout-epg-protocol): Never used and unnecessary, delete.
(allout-mode): Adjust docstring to describe changed encryption provisions.
(allout-toggle-current-subtree-encryption): Adjust docstring to describe
changed encryption provisions. Change fetch-pass to keymode-cue, for
simpler universal argument interpretation.
(allout-toggle-subtree-encryption): Adjust docstring to describe
changed encryption provisions. Change fetch-pass to keymode-cue, for
simpler universal argument interpretation. Remove provisions for handling
key type and identity - they'll all be within allout-encrypt-string or
epg/epg or even contained all the way in gpg.
(allout-encrypt-string): Include keypair-mode argument, for requesting
keypair encryption. Require epa, for recipients handling. Change how
regexp filtering elements are named.
(allout-obtain-passphrase), (allout-epg-passphrase-callback-function),
(allout-make-passphrase-state), (allout-passphrase-state-passphrase):
Remove, we're not providing passphrase verification and hinting because:
- gpg v1 is required for epg passphrase callback operation, on which
verification and hinting depends
- doing that handling exposes the passphrase to emacs code, which is much
much less secure than leaving all passphrase handling in gpg
- leaving all passphrase handling to gpg removes a lot of complexity from
allout code
- gpg v2 connection to gpg-agent requires no user provisions, so is simpler
and provides some convenience that makes up for the lack of hinting and
verification
(allout-encrypted-key-info), (allout-update-passphrase-mnemonic-aids),
(allout-get-encryption-passphrase-verifier), (allout-verify-passphrase):
Obsolete.

23 ;;; Commentary: | |
24 | |
25 ;; Eshell, by using the pcomplete package, provides a full
26 ;; programmable completion facility that is comparable to shells like
27 ;; tcsh or zsh. | |
28 ;; | |
29 ;; Completions are context-sensitive, which means that pressing <TAB>
30 ;; after the command 'rmdir' will result in a list of directories,
31 ;; while doing so after 'rm' will result in a list of all file
32 ;; entries. | |
33 ;; | |
34 ;; Many builtin completion rules are provided, for commands such as
35 ;; `cvs', or RedHat's `rpm' utility. Adding new completion rules is
36 ;; no more difficult than writing a plain Lisp functions, and they can
37 ;; be debugged, profiled, and compiled using exactly the same
38 ;; facilities (since in fact, they *are* just Lisp functions). See
39 ;; the definition of the function `pcomplete/make' for an example of
40 ;; how to write a completion function.
41 ;; | |
42 ;; The completion facility is very easy to use. Just press TAB. If
43 ;; there are a large number of possible completions, a buffer will
30338 | 44 ;; appear showing a list of them. Completions may be selected from |
29876 | 45 ;; that buffer using the mouse. If no completion is selected, and the |
46 ;; user starts doing something else, the display buffer will
47 ;; automatically disappear.
48 ;; | |
49 ;; If the list of possible completions is very small, Eshell will
50 ;; "cycle" through them, selecting a different entry each time <TAB>
51 ;; is pressed. <S-TAB> may be used to cycle in the opposite
52 ;; direction. | |
53 ;; | |
54 ;; Glob patterns can also be cycled. For example, entering 'echo
55 ;; x*<tab>' will cycle through all the filenames beginning with 'x'.
56 ;; This is done because the glob list is treated as though it were a
57 ;; list of possible completions. Pressing <C-c SPC> will insert all
58 ;; of the matching glob patterns at point.
59 ;; | |
60 ;; If a Lisp form is being entered, <TAB> will complete the Lisp
61 ;; symbol name, in exactly the same way that <M-TAB> does in Emacs
62 ;; Lisp mode. | |
63 ;; | |
64 ;; The list of possible completions can be viewed at any point by
65 ;; pressing <M-?>. | |
66 ;; | |
67 ;; Finally, context-related help can be accessed by pressing <C-c i>.
68 ;; This only works well if the completion function has provided Eshell
69 ;; with sufficient pointers to locate the relevant help text.
