(read_escape): New arg BYTEREP for reporting whether escape forces unibyte or multibyte. (read1): When reading a string, take note of that info.

This directory contains the source code for the architecture-dependent
files that go in ../arch-lib.  At present, these are mostly utility
programs used by Emacs.
