32 <H1>4.2 Rename</H1>
|

33 <P>To rename a file in GQview press Control + R, or select Rename
|
|
34 from the File menu. Rename is also available in the context menu of
|
|
35 all images and files.</P>
|
|
36 <P>When renaming a file, a dialog will display allowing entry of the
|
|
37 new name for the file. The dialog will be different depending on the
|
|
38 number of files selected to be renamed. A simple dialog will appear
|
|
39 when renaming a single file, however when renaming multiple files the
|
|
40 dialog will include a list of the file to be renamed and additional
|
|
41 options.</P>
|

44 <P><U>Rename single file dialog</U></P>
|
|
45 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The dialog that appears when renaming
|
|
46 a single file includes an image of the file, an entry to type the new
|
|
47 name of the file, a Rename button, and a Cancel button. Type the new
|
|
48 name into the text entry and press Enter or activate the Rename
|
|
49 button to rename the file. Press Escape or activate the Cancel button
|
|
50 to close the dialog and abort renaming the file.</P>
|
|
51 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">When renaming a file and the new name
|
|
52 already exists on the file system a dialog will appear showing the
|
|
53 renamed and existing files. To overwrite the existing file press
|
|
54 enter or activate the Overwrite button. Press Escape or activate the
|
|
55 Cancel button to close the dialog abort renaming the file.</P>

58 <P><U>Rename multiple files dialog</U></P>
|
|
59 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The dialog that appears when renaming
|
|
60 multiple files includes the list of files to be renamed, a preview
|
|
61 image of the active file, an entry to enter the new file name, an
|
|
62 auto rename check box, a Rename button, and a Cancel button.</P>
|
|
63 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Manually enter new file names:</B>
|
|
64 To manually enter the new name of each file, the active file will be
|
|
65 displayed in the image preview and it's original name will be
|
|
66 displayed above the text entry. To rename the file type the new name
|
|
67 and press Enter or activate the Rename button. When a file is
|
|
68 successfully renamed it will be removed from the list and the next
|
|
69 one will become the active file. After all files have been renamed,
|
|
70 the dialog will close.</P>
|
|
71 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">Files do not have to be renamed in the
|
|
72 order that they appear in the list, highlighting a name in the list
|
|
73 will make it become the active file.</P>
|
|
74 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">When renaming a file and the new name
|
|
75 already exists on the file system a dialog will appear showing the
|
|
76 renamed and existing files. To overwrite the existing file press
|
|
77 enter or activate the Overwrite button. Press Escape or activate the
|
|
78 Cancel button to return to the original rename dialog, the file that
|
|
79 prompted the overwrite dialog will remain active.</P>
|
|
80 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Automatic renaming of multiple
|
|
81 files:</B> To automatically rename the files in the list, enable the
|
|
82 Auto rename check box. The dialog will change to batch mode for
|
|
83 numerical naming of files.</P>
|
|
84 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The file name list will change to
|
|
85 include a preview column that will show the resulting name of each
|
|
86 file. The text entry will change to three entries; the first
|
|
87 represents the text that appears in the new names before the number,
|
|
88 the second will be the start number to use when incrementing the file
|
|
89 number, and the third represents the text to append to the name after
|
|
90 the number. The end text should include the file name extension,
|
|
91 therefore batch renaming multiple types of files (those with
|
|
92 different extensions) all at once is not recommended.</P>
|
|
93 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The padding number can be used to
|
|
94 change the minimum length of characters to use for the number portion
|
|
95 of the new name. When the file number results in fewer characters
|
|
96 than the padding size, the result will be padded with leading zeros
|
|
97 to fill the remaining space. For example if padding size is 3, a file
|
|
98 with the number 24 will appear in the file name as “024”.</P>
|
|
99 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The order of the file list can be
|
|
100 changed by dragging a name to the desired location within the list.
|
|
101 The preview column will update to reflect the new order.</P>
|
|
102 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">When the preview of new names is
|
|
103 satisfactory, press Enter or activate the Rename button to rename the
|
|
104 files to match the name in the preview column. Press Escape or
|
|
105 activate the Cancel button to close the dialog and abort the rename
|
|
106 operation.</P>

|
|
108 existing files, a warning dialog will notify you. The rename dialog
|
|
109 will remain so that you can select a different set of names.</P>
