32 <H1>4.1 Copy and Move</H1>
|

33 <P>To copy an file in GQview press Control + C, to move an file press
|
|
34 Control + M. These operations also appear under File in the main
|
|
35 menu, and in the context menu of all images and files.</P>
|
|
36 <P>The Copy and Move operations and dialogs behave the same in
|
|
37 GQview, with the only difference being the final result. The
|
|
38 remaining text of this page applies equally to the Copy and Move
|
|
39 operations, for the remainder of this page these will be referred to
|
|
40 as a Copy/Move operation.</P>

43 <P>Initiating a Copy/Move operation will display a dialog to select
|
|
44 the destination folder to Copy/Move the selected file, after the
|
|
45 destination folder is selected GQview will proceed to Copy/Move the
|
|
46 images to the destination. If an error occurs or a file exists with
|
|
47 the same name as one of the files being Copy/Moved, a dialog will
|
|
48 appear prompting how to handle the situation.</P>

51 <P><U>The Copy/Move dialog</U></P>
|
|
52 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This is the dialog that is displayed
|
|
53 when initiating a Copy/Move operation. The dialog contains a row of
|
|
54 buttons near the top, vertical list of bookmarks along the left side,
|
|
55 a vertical list of folders in the current path, a text entry field,
|
|
56 and a row of buttons along the bottom.</P>
|
|
57 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Home button:</B> Activate this
|
|
58 button to change the active path to your home folder.</P>
|
|
59 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>New Folder button:</B> Activate
|
|
60 this to create a new empty folder as a sub folder of the active path.
|
|
61 The new folder will appear in the folder list ready for you to type
|
|
62 in the desired name.</P>

63 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Show Hidden check box:</B> Enabling
|
|
64 this check box will cause hidden folders to appear in the folder
|
|
65 list.</P>

66 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Bookmark list:</B> This list on the

67 left side of the window allows you to save links to folders that are
|
|
68 frequently used. Activating a bookmark will change the active path to
|
|
69 that pointed to by the link. To add items to the bookmark list
|

70 highlight a folder and press Control + B, select “Add bookmark”
|
|
71 from the folder's context menu, or drag a folder onto the bookmark
|
|
72 list.</P>

73 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The bookmark has a context menu that
|
|
74 can be displayed by clicking the right mouse button, or pressing the
|
|
75 Menu key when a bookmark has the focus. From the context menu you can
|
|
76 edit a bookmark, move it up or down in the list, or remove the
|
|
77 bookmark from the list. A bookmark can also be moved by pressing
|
|
78 Shift + Up or Shift + Down while it has the focus.</P>
|
|
79 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Folder list:</B> This is the list
|
|
80 that displays the folders contained in the active path. To change the
|
|
81 active path to a folder displayed in this list double click the
|
|
82 primary mouse button or highlight the folder with the keyboard and
|
|
83 press Enter or Space. This list has a context menu that allows
|
|
84 renaming or bookmarking the selected folder. A folder can also be
|
|
85 dragged onto the bookmark list to add a bookmark.</P>
|
|
86 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Path entry:</B> This text entry
|
|
87 displays the active path of the dialog. The path can be directly
|
|
88 edited using this entry. Tab completion is supported, and the drop
|
|
89 down arrow will display a list of recently selected folders.</P>

90 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Copy/Move button:</B> The name of
|
|
91 this button will differ depending on the selected operation,
|
|
92 activating it will start the operation with the folder displayed in
|
|
93 the path entry as the destination.</P>

94 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Cancel button:</B> Activate this
|
|
95 button to close the dialog, the operation will be aborted.</P>

98 <P><U>The error dialog</U></P>
|
|
99 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">If a problem occurs because GQview is
|
|
100 unable to Copy or Move a selected file a dialog will appear to notify
|
|
101 the user. The dialog will also ask if the operation should continue
|
|
102 if one or more files remain to be Copied or Moved.</P>

105 <P><U>The overwrite dialog</U></P>
|
|
106 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">If a file with the same name exists in
|
|
107 the selected destination a dialog will appear to notify the user and
|
|
108 ask how to resolve the conflict. The dialog will also display the
|
|
109 source and destination images. The following possible solutions will
|
|
110 be offered:</P>

111 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Auto rename:</B> Enabling this
|
|
112 check box to have GQview select a unique name for the destination
|
|
113 file, the proposed new name will appear in the rename entry field.</P>

114 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Rename:</B> Enable this check box
|
|
115 to manually enter a new name for the file.</P>

119 overwrite the existing file, or rename it if one of the rename check

122 will perform the same operation as the Yes button, however any
|

123 further file name conflicts will be handled quietly in the same
|

124 method as is selected for the current file.</P>

126 button will skip doing anything to the file in question, and resume
|
|
127 the operation with the next file. The source file will remain
|

130 This will perform the same as the Skip button, however any further
|

131 file name conflicts will be quietly ignored for all remaining files.</P>
