33 <P>The image pane is the region of the main window that displays the | |
34 selected image. The image pane allows adjustment of display size and | |
35 orientation; it also provides several methods to manipulate the image | |
36 with the mouse and keyboard.</P> | |

39 <P><U>Image display</U></P> | |
40 <P>The image is drawn to the screen as it is decoded from disk. The | |
41 image can be panned and zoomed while it is still loading. Image | |
42 adjustment operations for rotation, mirror, and flip will delay until | |
43 the image is completed. The adjustment queue will remember one | |
44 operation and will retain the most recently requested function, which | |
45 will be performed once the image has finished loading.</P> | |
46 <P>The quality of the image, especially when using the zoom feature, | |
47 is dependent on the settings that are available on the <A HREF="10_2_image.html">Image | |
48 tab</A> of the preferences dialog.</P> | |
49 <P>To increase the speed of loading the next image when navigating | |
50 the image list in sequence, enable the <A HREF="10_2_image.html">Preload | |

54 <P><U>Image panning and manipulation</U></P> | |
55 <P STYLE="text-decoration: none">When the image size is larger than | |
56 the image pane, the visible region can be changed with the keyboard | |
57 or mouse. The keyboard can also be used to adjust the orientation of | |

60 Use the arrow keys to pan the image in the desired direction, to | |
61 increase the panning speed hold down the Shift key while pressing an | |
62 arrow key.</SPAN> Press Control and an arrow key to move to the | |
63 respective edge of the image. The image can only be panned with the | |
64 keyboard when the image has the focus, indicated by a dotted line | |
65 surrounding the image pane.</P> | |

67 or [=] key to zoom in and the [-] key to zoom out. The [X] or keypad | |
68 [*] key will scale the image to fit the available display area, the | |
69 [Z] or keypad [/] key will reset the zoom to original image size. | |
70 There are also keys to select a preset zoom factor: [1] = 1:1, [2] = | |
71 2:1, [3] =3:1, [4] = 4:1, [7] = 1:4, [8] = 1:3, and [9] = 1:2.</P> | |

93 image will pan in the direction of the mouse pointer relative to the | |
94 icon. The pan speed will increase in proportion to the distance that | |
95 the pointer is from the center of the icon. To end the smooth scroll | |
96 function click the primary mouse button within the image pane.</P> | |

100 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">The displayed image can be changed to | |
101 the next or previous image using the keyboard or mouse.</P> | |

103 Page Up keys will change the image to the next or previous image, | |
104 respectively, in the list. The Home and End keys will jump to the | |
105 first and last image, respectively. When the image has the focus, the | |
