32 <H1>4.3 Delete</H1>
|

33 <P>To delete a file in GQview press Control + D, or select Delete
|
|
|
34 from the file menu. Delete is also available in the context menu of
|
|
|
35 all images and files. If <A HREF="10_6_advanced.html">Enable delete
|
|
|
36 key</A> is enabled in Options, pressing the Delete key can also be
|
|
|
37 used to delete files.</P>
|
|
|
38 <P>The behavior when starting a delete operation depends on the
|
|
|
39 <A HREF="10_6_advanced.html">Confirm file delete</A> option in
|
|
|
40 Options. If the option is enabled a dialog will appear to confirm the
|
|
|
41 operation, if it is not enabled the files will be deleted without
|
|
|
42 further interaction. In all cases if the file is unable to be
|
|
|
43 deleted you will be notified by a dialog.</P>

46 <P><U>Confirm delete dialog</U></P>
|
|
|
47 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The dialog that appears when delete
|
|
|
48 confirmation is enabled will show the file or files to be deleted. To
|
|
|
49 delete the file press Enter or activate the Delete button. Pressing
|
|
|
50 Escape or activating the Cancel button will close the dialog and
|
|
|
51 abort the operation.</P>
|
|
|
52 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">When deleting multiple files, the
|
|
|
53 dialog will include two arrow buttons to step the image preview
|
|
|
54 through the list of files to be deleted. Initially the preview will
|
|
|
55 be blank, activate the right arrow to display the first file.</P>
|
|
|
56 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The dialog will also display the
|
|
|
57 status of the <A HREF="10_6_advanced.html">Safe Delete</A> feature.
|
|
|
58 Use this to determine if a file to be Deleted will be immediately
|
|
|
59 lost, or if the file can possibly be recovered from the Safe Delete
|
|
|
60 folder.</P>

61 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">If a file is unable to be deleted, a
|
|
|
62 dialog will appear to notify you. If multiple files were selected and
|
|
|
63 any remain, the dialog will include a Continue button, activating
|
|
|
64 this button or pressing Enter will delete the remaining files.

65 Pressing Escape or activating the Cancel button will close the dialog
|
|
|
66 and the remaining files will not be deleted.</P>

69 <P><U>Safe Delete</U></P>
|
|
|
70 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">GQview includes a feature to
|
|
|
71 temporarily store deleted files in a selected folder, to use this
|
|
|
72 feature enable <A HREF="10_6_advanced.html">Safe Delete</A> on the
|
|
|
73 advanced tab of the preferences dialog. Safe Delete includes these
|
|
|
74 options:</P>
|
|
|
75 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in"><B>Folder:</B> The folder to use for
|
|
|
76 temporarily retaining deleted files.</P>
|
|
|
77 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in"><B>Maximum size:</B> The maximum
|
|
|
78 amount of disk space to use when storing deleted files, in megabytes.</P>
|
|
|
79 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">When the total size of the deleted
|
|
|
80 files stored in the Safe Delete folder exceeds the Maximum size, the
|
|
|
81 oldest files are removed from the folder to make space for the new
|
|
|
82 deleted files. <SPAN STYLE="font-style: normal">Files moved to the
|
|
|
83 Safe Delete folder are prefixed with a six digit number in the
|
|
|
84 format:</SPAN></P>

85 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in"><I>nnnnnn_FILENAME</I></P>
|
|
|
86 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-style: normal">This is used to
|
|
|
87 distinguish which files to remove first when clearing space for new
|
|
|
88 files. The digit counter increments with each deleted file.</P>
|
|
|
89 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-style: normal">To clear the
|
|
|
90 contents of the Safe Delete folder, activate the Clear button
|
|
|
91 provided for this purpose on the <A HREF="10_6_advanced.html">Advanced
