31 <H1>2.6 Image Pane</H1>
|
|
32 <P>The image pane is the region of the main window that displays the
|
|
33 selected image. The image pane allows adjustment of display size and
|
|
34 orientation; it also provides several methods to manipulate the image
|
|
35 with the mouse and keyboard.</P>
|
|

|

|
|
38 <P><U>Image display</U></P>
|
|
39 <P>The image is drawn to the screen as it is decoded from disk. The
|
|
40 image can be panned and zoomed while it is still loading. Image
|
|
41 adjustment operations for rotation, mirror, and flip will delay until
|
|
42 the image is completed. The adjustment queue will remember one
|
|
43 operation and will retain the most recently requested function, which
|
|
44 will be performed once the image has finished loading.</P>
|
|
45 <P>The quality of the image, especially when using the zoom feature,
|
|
46 is dependent on the settings that are available on the <A HREF="10_2_image.html">Image
|
|
47 tab</A> of the preferences dialog.</P>
|
|
48 <P>To increase the speed of loading the next image when navigating
|
|
49 the image list in sequence, enable the <A HREF="10_2_image.html">Preload
|
|
50 next image</A> option.</P>

53 <P><U>Image panning and manipulation</U></P>
|
|
54 <P STYLE="text-decoration: none">When the image size is larger than
|
|
55 the image pane, the visible region can be changed with the keyboard
|
|
56 or mouse. The keyboard can also be used to adjust the orientation of
|
|
57 the image.</P>
|
|
58 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><SPAN STYLE="text-decoration: none"><B>Keyboard</B>:
|
|
59 Use the arrow keys to pan the image in the desired direction, to
|
|
60 increase the panning speed hold down the Shift key while pressing an
|
|
61 arrow key.</SPAN> Press Control and an arrow key to move to the
|
|
62 respective edge of the image. The image can only be panned with the
|
|
63 keyboard when the image has the focus, indicated by a dotted line
|
|
64 surrounding the image pane.</P>
|
|
65 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">To scale the image size, use the [+]
|
|
66 or [=] key to zoom in and the [-] key to zoom out. The [X] or keypad
|
|
67 [*] key will scale the image to fit the available display area, the
|
|
68 [Z] or keypad [/] key will reset the zoom to original image size.
|
|
69 There are also keys to select a preset zoom factor: [1] = 1:1, [2] =
|
|
70 2:1, [3] =3:1, [4] = 4:1, [7] = 1:4, [8] = 1:3, and [9] = 1:2.</P>
|

71 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">To rotate the image clockwise 90
|
|
72 degrees press the “]” key, to rotate counterclockwise 90
|
|
73 degrees press the “[“ key. To rotate the image 180
|
|
74 degrees use [Shift] + [R], the image can also be flipped horizontally
|
|
75 or vertically with the respective [Shift] + [M] (mirror) and [Shift]
|
|
76 + [F] (flip) keys.</P>
|
|
77 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in"><I>Note: The rotation, mirror, and
|
|
78 flip functions will not change the image file on disk.</I></P>
|
|
79 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><SPAN STYLE="text-decoration: none"><B>Mouse</B>:</SPAN>
|
|
80 Press the primary mouse button on the image and hold it, then move
|
|
81 the mouse to pan the image in the desired direction. Releasing the
|
|
82 mouse button will stop the panning operation. The mouse wheel can
|
|
83 also be used to scroll the image when holding down the [Shift] key
|
|
84 (*).</P>
|
|
85 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">To scale the image size hold down the
|
|
86 [Control] key and scroll the mouse wheel up to zoom in, or down to
|
|
87 zoom out.</P>

88 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Smooth Scroll:</B> To start the
|
|
89 smooth scroll function hold down the [Shift] key and click the
|
|
90 primary mouse button. An icon will appear at the location of the
|
|
91 mouse pointer, the mouse can then be positioned to pan the image. The
|
|
92 image will pan in the direction of the mouse pointer relative to the
|
|
93 icon. The pan speed will increase in proportion to the distance that
|
|
94 the pointer is from the center of the icon. To end the smooth scroll
|
|
95 function click the primary mouse button within the image pane.</P>

98 <P><U>Navigation</U></P>
|
|
99 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">The displayed image can be changed to
|
|
100 the next or previous image using the keyboard or mouse.</P>
|
|
101 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Keyboard</B>: The Page Down and
|
|
102 Page Up keys will change the image to the next or previous image,
|
|
103 respectively, in the list. The Home and End keys will jump to the
|
|
104 first and last image, respectively. When the image has the focus, the
|
|
105 Space and Back Space keys can also be used to change the image.</P>
|
|
106 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Mouse</B>: To change to the next
|
|
107 image in the list click the left mouse button, click the middle mouse
|
|
108 button to change to the previous image. The mouse wheel can also be
|
|
109 used to change the current image (*).</P>

112 <P><U>Context menu</U></P>

113 <P>Right clicking the mouse or pressing the menu key while the image
|

114 has the focus will display a menu. The menu functions will perform
|

115 the same as those that match the window's <A HREF="2_2_menus.html">menu

116 bar</A>, however a few functions are unique to the context menu:</P>

117 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>View in new window:</B> Opens a new
|
|
118 window containing a second copy of the current image.</P>

120 slide show</B>: Controls the pause state of an active slide show, the
|
|
121 text of the menu will change to reflect the action that will be
|
|

127 the image pane, dropping a file will display the file and dropping a

129 folder. When dropping multiple items on the image pane, only the

130 first item in the list will be used, all additional items will be
|

133 initiated from the image pane with the middle mouse button, the
|
|
