Sometimes, when signals aren't emitted when you think they should be,
it's because other parts of the program think they're being emitted
when they are being emitted and not when you think they should be.

47 haven't worked on anything in this release, either. I've been
48 working offline on a MacOSX UI. No, you're not allowed to ask
49 me when it will be ready. If you ask me then I won't answer
50 you. You've been warned! :-D
0 | 51 |
6134 | 52 Sean: Although I tend to go right here in the two slot in NEWS, |
53 we don't always commit in this order. This is the third time I've
54 rewritten this because the jerks below me keep commiting while I'm
55 writing causing mass conflictination. Grrr. Stupid jerks. Anyway,
56 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
57 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
58 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother
59 reading the other people's NEWS. It's all boring. There's some
60 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.
61 Great, now Luke just committed NEWS causing more conflictination.
62 I wouldn't bother reading his either. Oh, and I don't want to thank
63 Megan (Cae) or Kevin (SimGuy). They're stupid jerks too. Grrr...
64 | |
6129 | 65 Mark: I actually did stuff for this release. Go me. I probably |
66 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
67 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 68 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |
6129 | 69 Christian and Nathan. We had some help from a few civilians |
70 finding and fixing bugs. Thanks to Megan (Cae), Ka-Hing Cheung
6130 | 71 (javabsp), and Kevin Stange (SimGuy) for their work. Man, I was just |
6129 | 72 looking at Sean's NEWS entry for 0.64--that's talent. Also, stay |
73 in school. Just say no. Only you can prevent forest fires.

6133 | 97 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
98 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
99 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
100 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
101 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
102 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
103 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
104 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look
105 through preferences again anyway, alot of you are starting to
106 forget that things are optional again. :-)
107 | |
6137 | 108 Nathan: I think I did something for this release a while ago. I've |
109 got a mailbox full of commit emails, and some have my name on them,
110 so I must have done something, right? Probably some minor jabber stuff,
111 and lots of crazy bugfixes. It was a team effort, I'd like to thank the
112 academy, our producer Rob Flynn, and of course all the fans. You rock.

5410 | 193 Nathan: It seems like 0.62 was forever and a day ago. I had to look |

195 can put chats in your buddy list. And then I tweaked a bunch of stuff
196 and fixed a bunch of crashes. Then exams came, and then I went home
197 for a week and left my laptop's power cable here at school, so I didn't

5196 | 215 Luke: I didn't do much here besides the odd translation patch and a couple |
216 bug fix patches. This is primarily a bug fix release, and much needed at
217 that. Didn't get a chance to write sorting code, work has been busy.
218 Hopeefully it will happen for 0.63.
219 | |
5197 | 220 Mark: Gaim is coming along quite beautimously. I'm going to eat |
221 my Pop-tarts now. | |
222 | |
5198 | 223 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this release, |
224 and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports XHTML-IM. In
225 plain english, this means that you can now format your jabber messages,
226 and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML still needs some
227 work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that will come in time.
228 That time would come sooner if my CS prof accepted "I was hacking on Gaim"
229 as a valid excuse for an extension ;-)
230 | |
5058 | 231 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 232 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
233 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
234 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
235 faucet. It drips all night.
236 | |
5073 | 237 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) but |
238 not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything since
239 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from Dave Camp
5079 | 240 is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and thanks to |
241 everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 242 |
5058 | 243 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
244 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
245 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
246 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
247 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

5076 | 255 Luke: Okay, i'm probly the least cool, so I'll go last. I committed a few |
256 patches from other people here, nothing earth shattering though. The biggest
257 thing in this release is the group re-ordering bug fix, having that fixed

267 Rob: Wow. So, it has been a really long time since we started the
268 gtk2 fork. It's finally ready for public consumption. Sean is about
269 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right
270 now pouring me a shot of his choice. Everyone, raise your beers if
271 you've got them. It's been a cool almost 10-months of development.
272 I hope you all enjoy. Drink'em if you got'em!
273 | |
5024 | 274 Sean: I'm writing this 3 minutes before my 21st birthday. Nobody can |
275 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
276 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
277 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.
278 Even the ChangeLog is somewhat incomplete. Yay, I'm 21 now! Everyone
279 enjoy! :) | |
280 | |
5025 | 281 Nathan: Happy birthday Sean! Rob decided to let me start cleaning up |
282 after everyone, so here I am. "sexy" is the only word that can be used

317 didn't go out on time. Oh well. I would like to welcome
318 Jim Seymour aboard the development team. He's going to be taking
319 over the work on our Jabber code as well as doing various other
320 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 321 |
3243 | 322 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |
323 important security fix for MSN and a few nice new features.
324 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
325 | |

327 Rob's a mango. | |
328 | |
3173 | 329 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 330 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
331 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
332 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
333 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
334 our minds ;-). | |
335 | |
3179 | 336 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
337 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
338 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
339 cooler, I promise. | |
3173 | 340 |
3144 | 341 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
342 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
343 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
344 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
345 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
346 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
347 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
348 annoying style problem.
349 | |
350 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
351 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
352 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
353 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
354 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
355 future. | |
3114 | 356 |
3113 | 357 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
358 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
359 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
360 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
361 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
362 | |
3110 | 363 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
364 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
365 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 366 |
3053 | 367 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
368 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
369 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
370 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
371 | |
3054 | 372 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
373 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
374 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
375 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 376 |
2993 | 377 0.53 (02/28/2002): |
378 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
379 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
380 | |
381 | |
382 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
383 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
384 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
385 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
386 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
387 notification too. Hooray!
388 | |
2978 | 389 |
2961 | 390 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 391 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
392 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
393 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
394 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
395 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
396 | |
397 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
398 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
399 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
400 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
401 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
402 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
403 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the

760 | |
1289 | 761 0.11.0-pre1 (12/03/2000): |
1199 | 762 Rob: Hey guys! Guess what!? Yup, you're correct! It's the pre1 |
763 release of 0.11.0. We have all sorts of goodies in this release!
764 Check out the ChangeLog file. As always if you find any bugs,
765 please report them on www.sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/
1195 | 766 |
767 You may find several small bugs as this is still a prerelease.
1192 | 768 |
1199 | 769 You may want to note that my IRC plugin does not have full |
770 functionality as of yet. All of the important / commands will be
771 added before the final release. Also, if someone could send me
772 some good buddylist pixmaps for the irc plugin then I'd much
773 appreciate it. Thanks to everyone who made this new release possible!
1194 | 774 |
1195 | 775 If you have any ideas, comments, or suggestions, please let us know |
1199 | 776 either by e-mail or via the source forge message board at the URL |
777 above. :) | |
1194 | 778 |
1192 | 779 |
1195 | 780 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
781 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
782 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
783 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
784 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
785 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
786 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
787 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
788 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

955 | |
170 | 956 0.9.15: |
219 | 957 Hey boy's and girls. There's not much to say here this time. |
958 We're loving Southern California, the new job's going great. We just
959 got our company website up and the product development is going pretty
960 smooth. Life's pretty sweet now.
961 | |
962 We've hacked up all kinds of goodies for you in 0.9.15. There's
963 some file transfer (receive) support for those of you who have been
964 wanting it for a while. There's some other misc. goodies tossed in as
965 well. Enjoy!! Oh yeah, we need a new website. Come up with a sweet
966 design and get in touch with me. The current site is at:
967 http://www.marko.net/gaim
968 | |
969 Thanks much! | |
970 | |

76 | 972 0.9.14: |
104 | 973 Well, there's a few random hacks and fixes in here, along with |
974 a little suprise. You guessed it, kiddos, support for plugins! Happy
975 hacking! | |
76 | 976 |
56 | 977 0.9.13: |
69 | 978 Not much to say for this release. Bug fixes, That's all. Look |
979 for the goodies I promised in 0.9.13 to appear in 0.9.14 which should be
980 released very soon now.
56 | 981 |
71 | 982 By the way, our CVS is now hosted over at source forge. Go check |
983 it out at http://www.sourceforge.net. Please check there before submitting
984 any bug reports (You can read our CVS comments to see if we have fixed any
985 problems). | |
986 | |
7 | 987 0.9.12: |
25 | 988 Well guys, looks like we got some nifty things in this version. |
989 TrueType Fonts are supported for those XFSTT buffs out there (or whatever
990 else you use). A crap load of those plaguing memory leaks have FINALLY been
991 fixed. My brother, Jeramey, and a new friend Peter Teichan helped stomp
992 those babies out. A rad guy by the name of Eric Warmenhoven has been
993 really sweet lately and has all but rewritten the Gnome Applet support :).
994 He submitted patch after patch. I finally got annoyed with him (just kidding bud)
995 and gave him CVS access. Look for Gnome Applet support in Gaim to start improving.
996 That's about all for now. I wanted to get this release out there. File Receive
997 support will be in 0.9.13 which is due out soon.
7 | 998 |
0 | 999 0.9.11: |
1000 Jeramey got a new Comfy Chair! Its very very comfy! Whee!
1001 Jim also had a little hyper-drunken moment and started hacking away at

1002 a new configuration format for Gaim. Looks like we're running .gaimrc |
0 | 1003 version 1 now. Gotta love it. I got bored and hacked in a couple font |
1004 properties that will, in time, contain more features. That's about it
1005 for this version -- cept for that memory leak we fixed. Shush! We're
1006 not plumbers! -- rob

1008 ** Extra special update **
1009 | |
1010 Well guys, it looks like we all stopped working on gaim, moved to California,
1011 and took up a new job. Don't worry though, those beach bums out here havent
1012 worn off on us yet. I've decided to pick up the Gaim torch myself and continue
1013 development ont he prohect. Hopefully we wont have any more five month braks in
1014 the project. Sorry about that, guys :)
1015 | |
1016 0.9.10: | |
1017 Umm. Dont ask. Silly memory leak. For those of you who
1018 wondered, you were losing about 256 bytes every 25 seconds for each
1019 person you have on your contact list. Make fun of us. Better yet ..
1020 Send us beer. We'll do better :)

1022 0.9.9: | |

1024 problems with Gaim working properly, please check out the FAQ file. It |
0 | 1025 contains a nice fix submitted by one of our users. I hope this works for |
1026 you guys! | |
1027 Jim appears to have intoxicated himself. This is, as always, a
1028 Good Thing (tm). His late-night adventure with the liquid-bread food group
1029 lead to the birth of a nice little feature called `The Lag-O-Meter'. Dont
1030 ask, just try it out :). It is pretty pointless if you have a super-fast
1031 connection but if you are a modem user, like many of us are, then try it out.
1032 There's also some idle preferences and some other little random
1033 bug fixes. Check'em out yo :)
1034 | |
1035 0.9.8: | |
1036 Get Along Lil' Doggies. Heh. Looks like we have yet another new
1037 version of gaim for you guys to play with. Be gentle now, it has a few
1038 new fetures. The HTML widget is now more robust and we have *da da da*
1039 HTTP proxy support.
1040 Oh By The Way, Do not pay too much attention to what we are doing
1041 with this release. We are all a little bit happy tonight. You must love
1042 life. This is a special release of gaim. We will be releasing some wonderful
1043 photographs soon .. or perhaps if we get the bloody webcam working then we
1044 will take a couple of quick snapshots.

1045 Looks like the Gaim developers convention (cool name huh) that we |
0 | 1046 had this weekend in Auburn, AL went wonderfully :). yum yum yum. Hahahah. Oh |
1047 by the way. Beware of insecure rednecks in the deli. Bad things.
1048 In (non)related news, Jeramey could not successfully slaughter the
1049 one pound hamburger that he ordered. (I think he could have done it but he
1050 wasn't feeling very well at the time).
1051 Oh Yes, New Logo Too :) You likes? Thanks, Naru!
1052 Just a little side-note: it looks like we didnt make the release that
1053 we had expected during the Gaim Convention. Maybe we partied too much? I am
1054 not sure. I remember watching the sun rise before I went to bed, though.
1055 Oh well. Here's your release! Enjoy!
1056 By The Way, we have uploaded our party pictures to a website.
1057 http://www.dorky.net/gaim/party/ They are nothing spectacular but I hope you
1058 enjoy them! :). | |
1059 | |
1060 0.9.7: | |
1061 Well, boys and girls, it's that time again! Yup, time for the good
1062 release fairy to come bless us with her infinite wisdom and divine presence.
1063 Umm, yeah, something like that. Anyways, this release has several little
1064 "bad" network fixes (as Jim likes to say) and a couple touch-ups to a few
1065 other features. It also features preliminary oscar support. Thanks to Jim
1066 and Adam ("the libfaim guy") hehe :) We have also corrected a problem with
1067 gaim not wainting to correctly save your password if you have an underscore
1068 in it. Thanks to w1za7d for pointing out the underscore problem. ' and \
1069 have also been fixed in passwords. :o)
1070 | |
1071 0.9.6: | |
1072 Sorry about the little segfaulting bugs in the past release. Rob
1073 is stupid. :). Anyways, they have been patched up and a couple new features
1074 have been added. I hope you guys enjoy.
1075 | |
1076 0.9.5: | |
1077 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
1078 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
1079 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
1080 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
1081 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
1082 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
1083 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
1084 gotta love those pranks, eh?
1085 | |
1086 0.8.0: | |
1087 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
1088 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
1089 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
1090 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
1091 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
1092 want to get it out there.
1093 |
