Fix the win32 build for the file synchronization changes. Hopefully this will fix some of the occasional issues that people have had on Windows with their files getting corrupted on power failure or something.

17305 | 96 Stu: Lots'o'fixes in this. I don't know how you users find so many |
97 things for us to fix. 24 hours in a day (sadly). 24 is divisible by the

17304 | 101 Luke: I requested that we have a bug fix release, and so we have! |
102 Many, though unfortunately not all, of the reports that have been
103 submitted to us since 2.0.0 have been fixed now, and so you should
104 all have a much more stable experience with this release. I also
105 want to thank the many users who have resubmitted their reports
106 as we close out the old Source Forge bug tracker. If all goes well,
107 your report will get the attention it deserves as we continue to
108 work on Pidgin, Finch, and libpurple.
17303 | 109 |
17312 | 110 Nathan: A ton of fixes have gone into this release. The feedback |
111 we've gotten on 2.0.0 has been incredible. Hopefully we've resolved
112 most of the critical issues with 2.0.1. If we haven't, I'm sure
113 our wonderful users will let us hear about it. I seem to be
114 forgetting something...oh, right, I haven't promised any cool new
115 features in the next release! So, I promise at least one cool new

184 2.0.0beta7 (4/29/2007): |
16699 | 185 Sean: Beta 7. The final beta. A few major changes from beta6. For |
186 starters, we have some new names. That's pretty cool. We have a new
187 logo, to go along with it. And a lot of great icons! As Nathan mentions
188 below, we're totally back in the open now, having a signed agreement
189 from AOL that puts us in the clear. We all really regret having to go
190 completely dark for so long. Anyway, unlike betas1-6, which were of
191 normal release quality, this one is actually beta quality. There are
192 a few significant known issues, and a lot of changes that need a lot
193 of real-world testing. So, if you'd like to help us out, give it a
194 whirl, and let us know if you run into any major issues.
195 | |
16005 | 196 Nathan: So, the secret is out now. We renamed to Pidgin. I'd just |
197 like to apologize to everyone we've had to keep in the dark for the
198 last however-many months. I know it looked like development slowed
199 to a crawl, but in reality we've been working pretty hard to get
200 2.0.0 out the door, without getting into any legal trouble. I
201 realize that if we were some big corporation, we'd be getting flamed
202 about this secrecy for months. Please try to remember that we're
203 just a bunch of geeks who were scared of legal stuff (well, at least
204 I was. Scared, that is). The bottom line is that we're out in the
205 open again, and fully plan to stay that way. We're also opening up
206 the mail archives from the secretive past few months. You can scan
16706 | 207 through them if you want, or I can summarize. "Are the lawyers done |
16005 | 208 yet? No. Now? No. How about now? No." All lawyer jokes aside, |
209 I'm grateful to our legal team for crossing all the 't's and dotting
210 all the lowercase 'j's to get us the deal we got. Anyways, thanks
211 for your patience, and on to 2.0.1!
212 | |
16703 | 213 Gary: Well my silence, and our silence has ended. Finally the name |
214 change is over and done with and we can go back to a normal dev
215 cycle. Now if I can just get myself back onto a normal dev cycle,
216 but that's another story all together.

12527 | 298 2.0.0beta1 (12/17/2005): |
12541 | 299 Sean: I think Nathan sums everything up really well below. There's still |
300 a bunch we want to add (and remove) before the official release, but we
301 really want to start getting feedback about what's good and what's not.
302 So, please, be vocal about this beta!
12519 | 303 |
12541 | 304 Nathan: 15 months since we branched oldstatus, and started working on |
305 the behemoth that is 2.0.0. In that time, we've added a couple new
306 protocols, we had a few crazy patch writers become developers, and
307 had a few more people step up to be crazy patch writers. Sean wrote
308 a book, and we arbitrarily decided to make a version 1.0.0, and a
309 new versioning scheme. We got new artwork, and added almost 200 lines
310 to the ChangeLog. We've watched 2 major GTK+ releases, and added all
311 kinds of features using them. OK, I've wasted enough bits here. This
312 beta rocks, but it is a beta. Treat it as such, and enjoy!

322 here, but not all of them are finished or debugged. But then that's
323 why it's called a beta. Conversations are now contact-aware, and
324 there's a new status selector. There's smooth scrolling on incoming
325 messages as well. Our Crazy Patch Writers have been doing a good
326 job too, it seems like we're never lacking some patches in the
327 tracker to review. | |
12514 | 328 |
12541 | 329 Etan: I know I'm not going to be able to think of all the things I should |
330 talk about here so I'll just go with the stuff I remember. Adding buddies
331 on ejabberd jabber servers should work more correctly now (it's possible
332 adding buddies on other servers is a bit broken currently I'm still
333 looking into it). There are still other jabber issues I'm looking into
334 with handling of buddies.
335 In other topics, I finally brought my Accounts menu into gaim, though the
336 current example of it isn't exactly what I had in mind, anyone with any
337 suggestions/comments/etc about it please speak up.
338 Other than the stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention this beta should
339 be awesome as gaim 2.0.0 is going to be awesome. Have fun with it.
12514 | 340 |
12541 | 341 Luke: pretty much everything important has been said, so this is going to |
342 be rather repetative. This is a beta folks, so it will have bugs. It
343 will crash unexpectedly. Perhaps even frequently. Use it at your peril.
344 But do use it (though you might want to back up ~/.gaim first), and let us

383 what I believe to be our first contribution from a Summer of Code
384 student in this release: Jonathan Clark enabled the sending of
385 files to certain ICQ users. Support is still a bit rough, but

586 sometime relatively soon.
587 | |
588 Luke: Nothing much to see here, some bug fixes. Most of the work
589 is going towards the 2.0.0 release. We aren't quite sure when
590 that will be, and will keep the bug fix releases coming untill
591 all is ready. | |
592 | |
593 Christian: I would call this a ground-breaking release, but it isn't.
594 It seems like a good one, though. I dunno. I've been too busy at VMware,
595 unfortunately, but have some work that's just waiting to be finished up
596 for Gaim. Gaim 2.0.0 is going to rock. Gaim 3.0.0 will rock more.
597 Do you see a pattern? Thanks go out to Henry Jen for fixing up parts of
598 the gevolution plugin to support multiple addressbooks, and to all our
599 moms, for believing in us. Or something.
600 | |
601 Nathan: I got a new computer. It's fast. And has twice the bits!
602 | |
10034 | 603 1.0.0 (09/17/2004): |
604 Nathan: Hah! Bet you weren't expecting this! OK, if you were
605 paying any attention to the flame^H^H^H^H^Hthread on gaim-devel,
606 you might have been expecting this. But here it is, 1.0.0. Our
607 new versioning scheme has slightly more meaning than the older
608 one (expecially for plugin authors), but our 1.0(.0) release is
609 just as meaningless as we could have hoped. Enjoy!
610 | |
611 Luke: We've changed our pattern for version numbers with this
612 release, we are no longer simply counting versions. This release
613 then marks, not something traditionally "1.0" but the current
614 version of the api. When backwards compatability with that breaks
615 you'll see 2.0, more details in the faq. As a side note, if you
616 are reading this and are good with proxy code or with perl's XS C
617 bindings, please get in touch with me, my contact info is on the
618 website. Gaim could use your help.
619 | |
620 Mark: I love a circus.
621 | |
9872 | 622 0.82 (08/25/2004): |
9852 | 623 Rob: Woah, where did I come from? |
8540 | 624 |
9871 | 625 Mark: Lately I've been doing a lot more code maintenance/patch |
626 accepting/bug fixing type of work. And I think that's a really
627 good thing. I feel like Gaim is becoming more stable. It
9878 | 628 seems like we're lacking fewer features. It makes me warm. |
9871 | 629 Quick Robin! To the traverse wall! |
630 | |
9872 | 631 Nathan: Well, it looks like we stuck to the schedule again. Had |
632 we taken our dear sweet time, I might have had a chance to do
633 something cool for this release, but instead I stuck to the minor
634 stuff. <insert empty promises for the cool stuff i'll code for
635 next time here> | |
636 | |
9873 | 637 Tim: Lately I've been doing a lot more patch accepting, and a |
638 lot less actual coding. Unfortunately it has more to do with my
639 laziness than Gaim's progress. Like Nathan, I'm going to blame
640 our on time release schedule. But that didn't stop our Crazy
641 Patch Writers, or cpw's as grim now calls them, from writing
642 some good patches. So, instead of promising to code something
643 cool for next release, I'm going to promise that the cpw's will
644 code cool things for next release, and I might apply some of them.
645 | |
9877 | 646 Luke: I've been doing what I always do, committing patches, some |
647 better than others, and bugging other people to code stuff. Oh
648 and closing some bugs. Thanks to Dave West for joining the cpws
649 in helping to handle triage. This is mostly a bug fix release,
650 so PLEASE upgrade to it before submitting new bugs.
651 | |
9880 | 652 Kevin: Herman's been away, so Daniel Atallah and myself were given |
653 the task of preparing 0.82's Windows packages. After some feverish
654 plotting, we decided to update GTK and Daniel prepped an update to
655 libpng to address recent security advisories. Besides plotting and
656 a little bit of testing, this NEWS is all I really did. Oh, I also
657 rerefixed the transparency plugin... again! Our beloved Hermanator
658 should be back next time around, for 0.83.
659 | |
9688 | 660 0.81 (08/05/2004): |
661 Sean: Three weeks again! Sticking to schedules is awesome! Just
662 like Gaim v0.81. This is what we in the industry call a "bugfix
663 release." We closed over TWO HUNDRED bugs since 0.80. That's
664 awesome. Thanks to everyone who helped report, triage, fix, and
665 test. | |

9690 | 677 Mark: I was going to point out that we closed an insane amount of |
678 bugs for this release, but Sean already did that. I feel like
679 we've had some really talented new contributors contributing
680 recently. I won't say names... but watch your backs. Or something.
681 | |
9691 | 682 Nathan: I did next to nothing for this release. I am however |
683 settled in to my new job, and in a couple days, I should be settled
684 into my new domicile. If the DSL gods are in a good mood, I'll
685 have a connection there shortly, and can start being useful again.
686 | |
9537 | 687 0.80 (07/15/2004): |
688 Sean: Three weeks! Hooray for timeliness! I didn't do much here
689 but drag-and-droppable file transfers. Drag something into a
690 conversation window, and it will be sent. Kinda neat.
691 | |
9540 | 692 Mark: We have a small ant problem here. I can't help but think |
9541 | 693 I somehow brought this upon myself. |
9540 | 694 |
9542 | 695 Tim: I don't really have any news, but at least I don't have an |
696 ant problem either. You might think I've been hard at work on
697 Gaim-vv, but I haven't, I've just been lazy. I plan on doing
698 some cool things "soon" though, both with Gaim and Gaim-vv.
699 Bleeter sent me some nice dumps I need to implement yet.
700 | |
9543 | 701 Luke: We have a nice timely release, with a Changelog that seems |
702 small, but remember, this is summer, and people have lives. SILC
703 and Zephyr are making good progress from our Crazy Patch Writters,
704 and everyone begging to send files to people not on their buddy
705 list will be happy. good stuff. No, the msn buddy icon scalling
706 problem isn't fixed yet, maybe next release
707 | |
9382 | 708 0.79 (06/24/2004): |
709 Sean: We've moved to a three-week release cycle which we'll
710 hopefully be able to keep up more realistically than a two-week
711 cycle. Yahoo! went and broke last night, but it's fixed now thanks
712 to a quick fix sent in by Cerulean Studios this morning. Reports say
713 they'll continue to try to break us, though, so don't be surprised
714 if your Yahoo cuts out again.
9543 | 715 |
9384 | 716 Luke: I was really distracted this cycle, I want to thank my co- |
9387 | 717 developers and our crazy patch writers for keeping things going. |
9384 | 718 We have a fairly long changelog for you this release, including some |
719 nice bug fixes and some much-requested new features, the ChangeLog
720 has all the details there of course. Enjoy!

9385 | 726 Tim: This release brings us /commands in the core, which hopefully |
727 works better, and Yahoo! buddy icons. Thanks to all the people I
728 bugged for packet captures, like Simguy, Bleeter, and odl. Yahoo!
729 broke again, so I did a little last minute work on the web
730 messenger stuff, but then Cerulean Studios was cool and fixed the
731 problem already, so all that code's disabled. I also finally added
732 the Yahoo! Japan support, for those of you with Yahoo! Japan
733 accounts. | |
9386 | 734 |
735 Mark: I fixed that icon animation thing that caused Gaim to lock-up.
736 I also stepped on something at the beach and I think there might be
737 a little rock or something in my foot now.
738 | |
9390 | 739 Nathan: I've been really busy, what with having a new job and all. |
740 I didn't think I had done anything, but apparently I fixed some
741 Jabber stuff, and some IPv6 stuff. I must have been sleepcoding
742 or something, because I haven't had time for such things. Ah well,
743 enjoy this release. We'll see what I can get to in the next 3 weeks.
744 | |
9124 | 745 0.78 (05/30/2004): |
9102 | 746 Luke: A very long time, once again, since the last release. I think |
747 its mostly worth it. A few of you will still have trouble with msn
748 but we've worked out a number of bugs even there. Thanks to heroic
749 efforts on the part of Mark, we closed 400 some odd reports this
750 month. We are also welcoming Tim to the project, a very active
751 crazy patch writer who has brought massive improvements to WYSIWYG
752 and direct im this release. Again, it still won't work for every
753 one, but it will work for more people than it used to. Most
754 noticably, this release brings a LARGE simplicfication of the
755 preferences available. Please don't complain if your favorite
756 preference is no longer there. Take some time to think about
757 how and if it could be useful to a majority of people who use
758 Gaim in ways nothing like you. You'll find that the answer will
759 usually be that the preference isn't all that important.
760 | |
9103 | 761 Tim: I continued with the other crazy patch writers in fixing those |
762 WYSIWYG bugs. Then they went and made me a developer. Which is cool.
763 They told me I could commit WYSIWYG and Yahoo! changes. So I went
764 and fixed IM Image and Direct Connect in AIM for some reason. I also
9106 | 765 added some new Yahoo! smileys at least. Also you change your link |
766 color in your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file now. I might work on some of those
767 new Yahoo! features for next release, like buddy icons. But don't
768 count on it. Thanks to everyone who congratulated me. And thanks
769 to all our Crazy Patch Writers, who now expect me to apply all their
770 Crazy Patches. | |

9106 | 782 Gary: Congrats to Tim, no more competing for most ChangeLog entries. |
783 This means you _should_ be winning every release. Anyways, I didn't
784 finish nearly as much as I wanted to for this release but all of that
785 and then some should appear in 0.79.
786 | |
9108 | 787 Sean: I'll write my entry down here tonight. Removing preferences |
9395 | 788 was my big crusade this week, and the team did a great job at it, |
789 but I still have a nagging feeling that our preferences are still
790 overwhelming. Everyone's been doing a real great job; it's entirely
791 my fault we keep failing to meet our three-week schedule. Send your
792 complaints this way.
9108 | 793 |
9114 | 794 Nathan: I really didn't do much thanks to exams, and graduation, and all |
795 of that fun stuff. For next release, I'll have all new excuses, like my
796 new job, or maybe something I haven't even thought of yet. Oh yeah, and
797 a big warm welcome to Tim!
798 | |
8762 | 799 0.77 (04/22/2004): |
800 Sean: We're back to a somewhat regular release cycle now. Hooray!
9395 | 801 WYSIWYG is much improved in this release, and you can now copy and |
802 paste rich text to and from Gaim and other applications (see: Mozilla,
803 Evolution OpenOffice). Also, Novell has released their first release
804 of their GroupWise plugin, included in this release. Good stuff all
805 around. | |
8762 | 806 |
8763 | 807 Luke: Only a week "late" this time around, much nicer than the delay |
808 before the last release. Anyway, this release sees a HUGE number of
809 improvements to the WYSIWYG support, much thanks to all involved. If
810 you weren't impressed before, you should be now! This release also
811 sees the end of our TOC support, no one has been working on this in
812 some time and its causing problems. DON'T USE IT!. Also plugin
813 authors will want to take note of the fact that the plugin api version
814 changed. A nice solid release for you all :-)
815 | |
8764 | 816 Ethan: Once again I thought about doing some things and committed |
817 things that other people did. This development model is awesome. I
818 helped Mark refactor some stuff and our collective code ownership
819 helped us utilize a coherent system metaphor during our pair program-
820 ming sessions. It was extremely extreme. Look for some hard crypto
821 lovin' from yet another crazy contributor in the near future...
822 | |
8765 | 823 Ka-Hing: I actually did something for this release... or rather, the |
824 previous release, but LSchiere2 didn't commit that until this release.
825 So blame him. System logging is back, so you can log people's signon/
826 off/away/idle-ness again. There may be bugs with it, I don't know, not
827 like I use it. I will try to work on something that I will actually use
828 for the next release.
829 | |
830 Etan: Looking for someone to pair program with.

8548 | 841 Sean: Yeah, it's been a long time since the last release, and despite |
842 what others may tell you, we were just really lazy. This is pretty
843 much just 0.75 again, but, like, someone changed the "Info" icon and
844 I think, like, the Chinese translation may have been updated. We did
845 nothing interesting on it at all. Others may tell you "we haven't just

8542 | 868 Mark: Our crazy patch writers rock. Gary Kramlich, Tim Ringenbach, |
869 Kevin Stange, and Stu Tomlinson did an amazing job of tying up
870 loose ends and helping get this release out the door. Thanks guys!
8547 | 871 |
8543 | 872 Rob: My birthday is in a few days. I like cool stuff. Buy me something |
873 grand!! | |
8542 | 874 |
8547 | 875 Tim: Luke said write a NEWS, so I thought I would. There's a room |
876 list dialog now. And Nathan and I doubled the number of protocols that
877 can transfer files. After that I got lazy/busy and let Gary, Kevin,
878 and Stu fix all the bugs.
879 | |
8551 | 880 Nathan: Rob happens to share a birthday with my sister. So far she's |
881 been very vague about what she wants. She's not an easy person to shop
882 for. As for things you probably care more about, this release has so
883 much in it that I've forgotten about most of it. The stupidest of the
884 bugs from 0.75 are fixed. Jabber has a first pass at file transfer
885 support (no proxy support yet). SOCKS 5 proxy support may have gotten
886 a little better as a side-effect. Twinkies and penguin points to all
887 of the crazy patch writers, who did more than their fair share this
888 release. | |
889 | |
8553 | 890 Ethan: My birthday was yesterday, and not on the same day as Rob |
891 and Nathan's sister. And I don't mean that Rob and Nathan have the
892 same sister. For this release, I thought about making IRC better, I
893 thought about making Tcl better, and I committed patches from several
894 others who actually did these things. And probably some other
895 things, too. Let's hear it for crazy patch writers, and for the open
896 source philosophy that lets them get so CRAZY.
897 | |
8047 | 898 0.75 (01/09/2004): |
899 Rob: Woah, what's this? Me? Making a NEWS post!? Say it ain't so!
900 That's right, kiddos, I'm finally coming out of my reclusiveness.
901 I had a pretty shitty few months, and also just needed a break from
902 things. But, I'm back, and that's good. Right? Yes. And now,
903 a little word from Eric Warmenhoven.. :P
904 | |
8049 | 905 Eric: Ah, Rob and Eric. Just like the good ol' days. Now, if |
906 you'll excuse me, I have to go make some commits with Led Zeppelin
907 lyrics as my commit logs. heh. What do you mean, I look a lot
908 like Sean Egan? I'm... oh fine, you got me. It's really just Sean
909 in an Eric Warmenhoven costume.
910 | |
911 So, Yahoo! works again, and that's good. And 0.76 is going to have
912 something _very_ neat.
913 | |
8050 | 914 Nathan: You're running out of excuses to not use Jabber. Our chat |
915 support is now bar-some, quickly approaching bar-none! Everything
916 else in Jabber got neat improvements too. I'll leave it up to you
917 to figure out what they were.
918 | |

981 | |

990 all of the idiotic Jabber bugs from 0.72, and re-enabled the SASL
991 login stuff, now that it is finalized in the XMPP drafts. Oh, and
992 we now have a release notification plugin, so you can find out when

1051 too many problems. There are a lot of little nice feature additions, |

1055 as a lot of code (specifically, the conversations code and utility

6134 | 1228 Sean: Although I tend to go right here in the two slot in NEWS, |
1229 we don't always commit in this order. This is the third time I've
1230 rewritten this because the jerks below me keep commiting while I'm
1231 writing causing mass conflictination. Grrr. Stupid jerks. Anyway,
1232 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
1233 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
1234 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother

1236 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.

1242 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
1243 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 1244 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |

6133 | 1273 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
1274 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
1275 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
1276 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
1277 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
1278 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
1279 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
1280 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look
1281 through preferences again anyway, alot of you are starting to
1282 forget that things are optional again. :-)
1283 | |
6137 | 1284 Nathan: I think I did something for this release a while ago. I've |
1285 got a mailbox full of commit emails, and some have my name on them,
1286 so I must have done something, right? Probably some minor jabber stuff,
1287 and lots of crazy bugfixes. It was a team effort, I'd like to thank the
1288 academy, our producer Rob Flynn, and of course all the fans. You rock.

1306 with cool new features, this time, we really mean it. In fact, they're
1307 already in CVS (don't use CVS). The only obvious new feature for 0.64
1308 is buddy list sorting. This has been much requested and can be set in
1309 the buddy list preferences. You can sort by name, by status, and even
1310 by log file size--putting people you talk to most at the top. Plugins
1311 can even easily add their own sorting methods. It's all very cool. I

1398 | |
9395 | 1399 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this |
1400 release, and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports
1401 XHTML-IM. In plain english, this means that you can now format your
1402 jabber messages, and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML
1403 still needs some work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that

1412 | |

1451 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
1452 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
1453 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.
1454 Even the ChangeLog is somewhat incomplete. Yay, I'm 21 now! Everyone
1455 enjoy! :) | |
1456 | |
5025 | 1457 Nathan: Happy birthday Sean! Rob decided to let me start cleaning up |
1458 after everyone, so here I am. "sexy" is the only word that can be used
1459 to describe 0.60. Prepare to be shocked and amazed. /me raises his
1460 (shot) glass ;-) | |
1461 | |
9395 | 1462 Christian: Geeeeeze this took a long time. Worth it though! Personally, |
1463 I thought we'd all just give up on releases altogether and tell
1464 everybody just to grab CVS. I'm pretty happy with this release. I was
1465 able to contribute quite a bit to it. Makes me feel proud to be a gaim
1466 developer! I'm really looking forward to the future releases. I have
1467 some neat stuff planned. Yay, I'm still 19! Mmmm, Sierra Mist. Make me a
1468 sammich! | |

3289 | 1478 Rob: I guess Sean is busy at home or something and Jim is asleep. |
1479 I'm very tired but it's time for a release. Enjoy. :)
3334 | 1480 SORRY FOR THE DELAY. :( |
1481 | |
3335 | 1482 Sean: It's been a long time since our last release, and for no |
1483 good reason either. Rob and I just haven't been able to get together
1484 to do it. But now we have. Aside from some Jabber changes and some
1485 crucial MSN fixes, most of this release's changes are transparent,
1486 but none-the-less important. Well get some better changes when my
3336 | 1487 computer works again, you have my word* |
1488 | |
1489 *My word is worthless.
3335 | 1490 |
3248 | 1491 |
3241 | 1492 0.58 (05/13/2002): |
3242 | 1493 Rob: Yeah, so, my computer has been bad which is why the release |
1494 didn't go out on time. Oh well. I would like to welcome
1495 Jim Seymour aboard the development team. He's going to be taking
1496 over the work on our Jabber code as well as doing various other
1497 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 1498 |
3243 | 1499 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |
1500 important security fix for MSN and a few nice new features.
1501 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
1502 | |
3244 | 1503 Jim: Hmmm... Rob said I have to say *something*, so here it is: |
1504 Rob's a mango. | |
1505 | |
3173 | 1506 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 1507 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
1508 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
1509 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
1510 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
1511 our minds ;-). | |
1512 | |
3179 | 1513 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
1514 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
1515 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
1516 cooler, I promise.
3173 | 1517 |
3144 | 1518 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
1519 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
1520 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
1521 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
1522 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
1523 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
1524 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
1525 annoying style problem.
1526 | |
1527 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
1528 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
1529 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
1530 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
1531 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
1532 future. | |
3114 | 1533 |
3113 | 1534 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
1535 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
1536 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
1537 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
1538 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
1539 | |
3110 | 1540 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
1541 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
1542 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 1543 |
3053 | 1544 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
1545 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
1546 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
1547 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
1548 | |
3054 | 1549 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
1550 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
1551 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
1552 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 1553 |
2993 | 1554 0.53 (02/28/2002): |
1555 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
1556 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
1557 | |
1558 | |
1559 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
1560 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
1561 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
1562 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
1563 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
1564 notification too. Hooray!
1565 | |

2961 | 1567 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 1568 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
1569 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
1570 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
1571 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
1572 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
1573 | |
1574 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
1575 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
1576 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
1577 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
1578 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
1579 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
1580 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
1581 next release ;) | |
1582 | |
2967 | 1583 Rob: Operation Evil does not exist! ;-) |

2935 | 1585 |
2933 | 1586 0.51 (01/24/2002): |
2934 | 1587 Rob: Well, here we go. I FINALLY got around to making a release |
1588 after over a month, Sorry for the delay, all. Things got really
1589 hectic around the gaim house hold. This release isn't as complete
1590 as I had hoped, but I promised to get something out. There's some
1591 neat goodies in mind for the next release, right Sean? :-)

1700 story, but essentially, my company layed off a bunch of people,
1701 myself included, due to poor management. I've taken a new
1702 job which required moving across the country. I'm finally back

1871 much more developed at this point -- they should be completed,
1872 actually. Unfortunately, my real life job (yes, I have one hehe) got

1199 | 1939 Rob: Hey guys! Guess what!? Yup, you're correct! It's the pre1 |
1940 release of 0.11.0. We have all sorts of goodies in this release!

1192 | 1956 |
1195 | 1957 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
1958 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
1959 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
1960 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
1961 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
1962 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
1963 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
1964 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
1965 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

2167 TrueType Fonts are supported for those XFSTT buffs out there (or whatever

2172 He submitted patch after patch. I finally got annoyed with him (just kidding bud)
2173 and gave him CVS access. Look for Gnome Applet support in Gaim to start improving.
2174 That's about all for now. I wanted to get this release out there. File Receive
