[gaim-migrate @ 14842]

upgrade to the final release later, and various other cleanups and fixes
for some of the newer things we use such as dbus and cyrus sasl.

10128 | 250 1.0.2 (10/19/2004): |
251 Stu: I'm new around here. I tried to reduce the number of bugs in the bug
252 tracker, but it turns out that the only way to achieve that is to actually
253 _fix_ the bugs. So I fixed a couple, and then sneaked some patches out of
254 the patch tracker to fix some others. Sadly the bug tracker was not
255 significantly affected, maybe if I learn C I'll be able to make more of an
256 impact. | |
257 | |
258 Luke: Don't let Stu fool you, he has done a marvelous job on this release,
259 and deserves a lot of credit for it. And a number of those bug fixes are
260 critical ones that he discovered and fixed himself. So go update. Now.
261 | |
262 Nathan: On the other hand, Nathan has done nothing for this release. Why
263 do we keep him around again?
264 | |
265 Tim: So, I'm married now, and in Huntsville. I don't remember if I did
266 anything for this release or not, probably not. Bleeter has been more
267 active lately though, perhaps we'll see lots of cool things from him
268 soon. | |
269 | |
270 Sean: I'm down here with the "didn't do anything" guys.
271 | |
10089 | 272 1.0.1 (10/07/2004): |
273 Congratulations to Tim & Kim on their wedding!
274 | |
275 Sean: So, if you're playing along at home, you're aware that
276 incrementing the micro version number means that the API has
277 not changed at all. Although that itself is insignificant to
278 most everyone but plugin developers, but users won't find too
279 many significant changes. Consult ChangeLog. We're currently
280 branched for some major changes, so expect a really great 2.0.0
281 sometime relatively soon.
282 | |
283 Luke: Nothing much to see here, some bug fixes. Most of the work
284 is going towards the 2.0.0 release. We aren't quite sure when
285 that will be, and will keep the bug fix releases coming untill
286 all is ready. | |
287 | |
288 Christian: I would call this a ground-breaking release, but it isn't.
289 It seems like a good one, though. I dunno. I've been too busy at VMware,
290 unfortunately, but have some work that's just waiting to be finished up
291 for Gaim. Gaim 2.0.0 is going to rock. Gaim 3.0.0 will rock more.
292 Do you see a pattern? Thanks go out to Henry Jen for fixing up parts of
293 the gevolution plugin to support multiple addressbooks, and to all our
294 moms, for believing in us. Or something.
295 | |
296 Nathan: I got a new computer. It's fast. And has twice the bits!
297 | |
10034 | 298 1.0.0 (09/17/2004): |
299 Nathan: Hah! Bet you weren't expecting this! OK, if you were
300 paying any attention to the flame^H^H^H^H^Hthread on gaim-devel,
301 you might have been expecting this. But here it is, 1.0.0. Our
302 new versioning scheme has slightly more meaning than the older
303 one (expecially for plugin authors), but our 1.0(.0) release is
304 just as meaningless as we could have hoped. Enjoy!
305 | |
306 Luke: We've changed our pattern for version numbers with this
307 release, we are no longer simply counting versions. This release
308 then marks, not something traditionally "1.0" but the current
309 version of the api. When backwards compatability with that breaks
310 you'll see 2.0, more details in the faq. As a side note, if you
311 are reading this and are good with proxy code or with perl's XS C
312 bindings, please get in touch with me, my contact info is on the
313 website. Gaim could use your help.
314 | |
315 Mark: I love a circus.
316 | |
9872 | 317 0.82 (08/25/2004): |
9852 | 318 Rob: Woah, where did I come from? |
8540 | 319 |
9871 | 320 Mark: Lately I've been doing a lot more code maintenance/patch |
321 accepting/bug fixing type of work. And I think that's a really
322 good thing. I feel like Gaim is becoming more stable. It
9878 | 323 seems like we're lacking fewer features. It makes me warm. |
9871 | 324 Quick Robin! To the traverse wall! |
325 | |
9872 | 326 Nathan: Well, it looks like we stuck to the schedule again. Had |
327 we taken our dear sweet time, I might have had a chance to do
328 something cool for this release, but instead I stuck to the minor
329 stuff. <insert empty promises for the cool stuff i'll code for
330 next time here> | |
331 | |
9873 | 332 Tim: Lately I've been doing a lot more patch accepting, and a |
333 lot less actual coding. Unfortunately it has more to do with my
334 laziness than Gaim's progress. Like Nathan, I'm going to blame
335 our on time release schedule. But that didn't stop our Crazy
336 Patch Writers, or cpw's as grim now calls them, from writing
337 some good patches. So, instead of promising to code something
338 cool for next release, I'm going to promise that the cpw's will
339 code cool things for next release, and I might apply some of them.
340 | |
9877 | 341 Luke: I've been doing what I always do, committing patches, some |
342 better than others, and bugging other people to code stuff. Oh
343 and closing some bugs. Thanks to Dave West for joining the cpws
344 in helping to handle triage. This is mostly a bug fix release,
345 so PLEASE upgrade to it before submitting new bugs.
346 | |
9880 | 347 Kevin: Herman's been away, so Daniel Atallah and myself were given |
348 the task of preparing 0.82's Windows packages. After some feverish
349 plotting, we decided to update GTK and Daniel prepped an update to
350 libpng to address recent security advisories. Besides plotting and
351 a little bit of testing, this NEWS is all I really did. Oh, I also
352 rerefixed the transparency plugin... again! Our beloved Hermanator
353 should be back next time around, for 0.83.
354 | |
9688 | 355 0.81 (08/05/2004): |
356 Sean: Three weeks again! Sticking to schedules is awesome! Just
357 like Gaim v0.81. This is what we in the industry call a "bugfix
358 release." We closed over TWO HUNDRED bugs since 0.80. That's
359 awesome. Thanks to everyone who helped report, triage, fix, and
360 test. | |

393 some cool things "soon" though, both with Gaim and Gaim-vv.
394 Bleeter sent me some nice dumps I need to implement yet.
395 | |
9543 | 396 Luke: We have a nice timely release, with a Changelog that seems |
397 small, but remember, this is summer, and people have lives. SILC

404 Sean: We've moved to a three-week release cycle which we'll
405 hopefully be able to keep up more realistically than a two-week
406 cycle. Yahoo! went and broke last night, but it's fixed now thanks

424 broke again, so I did a little last minute work on the web
425 messenger stuff, but then Cerulean Studios was cool and fixed the
426 problem already, so all that code's disabled. I also finally added
427 the Yahoo! Japan support, for those of you with Yahoo! Japan
428 accounts. | |
9386 | 429 |
430 Mark: I fixed that icon animation thing that caused Gaim to lock-up.
431 I also stepped on something at the beach and I think there might be
432 a little rock or something in my foot now.
433 | |
9390 | 434 Nathan: I've been really busy, what with having a new job and all. |
435 I didn't think I had done anything, but apparently I fixed some
436 Jabber stuff, and some IPv6 stuff. I must have been sleepcoding
437 or something, because I haven't had time for such things. Ah well,
438 enjoy this release. We'll see what I can get to in the next 3 weeks.
439 | |
9124 | 440 0.78 (05/30/2004): |
9102 | 441 Luke: A very long time, once again, since the last release. I think |
442 its mostly worth it. A few of you will still have trouble with msn
443 but we've worked out a number of bugs even there. Thanks to heroic
444 efforts on the part of Mark, we closed 400 some odd reports this
445 month. We are also welcoming Tim to the project, a very active
446 crazy patch writer who has brought massive improvements to WYSIWYG
447 and direct im this release. Again, it still won't work for every
448 one, but it will work for more people than it used to. Most
449 noticably, this release brings a LARGE simplicfication of the
450 preferences available. Please don't complain if your favorite
451 preference is no longer there. Take some time to think about
452 how and if it could be useful to a majority of people who use
453 Gaim in ways nothing like you. You'll find that the answer will
454 usually be that the preference isn't all that important.
455 | |
9103 | 456 Tim: I continued with the other crazy patch writers in fixing those |
457 WYSIWYG bugs. Then they went and made me a developer. Which is cool.
458 They told me I could commit WYSIWYG and Yahoo! changes. So I went
459 and fixed IM Image and Direct Connect in AIM for some reason. I also
9106 | 460 added some new Yahoo! smileys at least. Also you change your link |
461 color in your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file now. I might work on some of those
462 new Yahoo! features for next release, like buddy icons. But don't
463 count on it. Thanks to everyone who congratulated me. And thanks
464 to all our Crazy Patch Writers, who now expect me to apply all their
465 Crazy Patches. | |

9106 | 477 Gary: Congrats to Tim, no more competing for most ChangeLog entries. |
478 This means you _should_ be winning every release. Anyways, I didn't
479 finish nearly as much as I wanted to for this release but all of that
480 and then some should appear in 0.79.
481 | |
9108 | 482 Sean: I'll write my entry down here tonight. Removing preferences |
9395 | 483 was my big crusade this week, and the team did a great job at it, |
484 but I still have a nagging feeling that our preferences are still
485 overwhelming. Everyone's been doing a real great job; it's entirely
486 my fault we keep failing to meet our three-week schedule. Send your
487 complaints this way.
9108 | 488 |
9114 | 489 Nathan: I really didn't do much thanks to exams, and graduation, and all |
490 of that fun stuff. For next release, I'll have all new excuses, like my
491 new job, or maybe something I haven't even thought of yet. Oh yeah, and
492 a big warm welcome to Tim!
493 | |
8762 | 494 0.77 (04/22/2004): |
495 Sean: We're back to a somewhat regular release cycle now. Hooray!
9395 | 496 WYSIWYG is much improved in this release, and you can now copy and |
497 paste rich text to and from Gaim and other applications (see: Mozilla,
498 Evolution OpenOffice). Also, Novell has released their first release
499 of their GroupWise plugin, included in this release. Good stuff all
500 around. | |
8762 | 501 |
8763 | 502 Luke: Only a week "late" this time around, much nicer than the delay |
503 before the last release. Anyway, this release sees a HUGE number of
504 improvements to the WYSIWYG support, much thanks to all involved. If
505 you weren't impressed before, you should be now! This release also
506 sees the end of our TOC support, no one has been working on this in
507 some time and its causing problems. DON'T USE IT!. Also plugin
508 authors will want to take note of the fact that the plugin api version
509 changed. A nice solid release for you all :-)
510 | |
8764 | 511 Ethan: Once again I thought about doing some things and committed |
512 things that other people did. This development model is awesome. I
513 helped Mark refactor some stuff and our collective code ownership
514 helped us utilize a coherent system metaphor during our pair program-
515 ming sessions. It was extremely extreme. Look for some hard crypto
516 lovin' from yet another crazy contributor in the near future...
517 | |
8765 | 518 Ka-Hing: I actually did something for this release... or rather, the |
519 previous release, but LSchiere2 didn't commit that until this release.
520 So blame him. System logging is back, so you can log people's signon/
521 off/away/idle-ness again. There may be bugs with it, I don't know, not
522 like I use it. I will try to work on something that I will actually use
523 for the next release.
524 | |
525 Etan: Looking for someone to pair program with.

8540 | 535 0.76 (04/01/2004): |
8548 | 536 Sean: Yeah, it's been a long time since the last release, and despite |
537 what others may tell you, we were just really lazy. This is pretty
538 much just 0.75 again, but, like, someone changed the "Info" icon and
539 I think, like, the Chinese translation may have been updated. We did
540 nothing interesting on it at all. Others may tell you "we haven't just
541 been lazy," or "you guys will find that we've managed to do some neat
542 stuf in this one." They lie. All of them.
9102 | 543 |
8540 | 544 Luke: Okay, normally I wait for Sean to go first, but he said to commit. |
545 Its been a few months since the last release, but we haven't just been
546 lazy. A very long ChangeLog for you all. Most notably of course is the
547 addition of WYSIWYG input for chats and conversations. Many thanks to
548 DAYS of long work by Sean, Gary Kramlich, Kevin Stange, Tim Ringenbach,
9395 | 549 and Stu Tomlinson for their efforts writting, fixing, and testing |
550 this. Without the dedicated support of our crazy patch writters, this
551 release would have taken yet longer. Sean also has yahoo working again,
552 with some assistance from our friends over at Trillian, you may all
553 officially rejoice. We also have a large number of bug fixes, closing
554 more than 200 bug reports this month alone.

8542 | 563 Mark: Our crazy patch writers rock. Gary Kramlich, Tim Ringenbach, |
564 Kevin Stange, and Stu Tomlinson did an amazing job of tying up
565 loose ends and helping get this release out the door. Thanks guys!
8547 | 566 |
8543 | 567 Rob: My birthday is in a few days. I like cool stuff. Buy me something |
568 grand!! | |
8542 | 569 |
8547 | 570 Tim: Luke said write a NEWS, so I thought I would. There's a room |
571 list dialog now. And Nathan and I doubled the number of protocols that
572 can transfer files. After that I got lazy/busy and let Gary, Kevin,
573 and Stu fix all the bugs.
574 | |
8551 | 575 Nathan: Rob happens to share a birthday with my sister. So far she's |
576 been very vague about what she wants. She's not an easy person to shop
577 for. As for things you probably care more about, this release has so
578 much in it that I've forgotten about most of it. The stupidest of the
579 bugs from 0.75 are fixed. Jabber has a first pass at file transfer
580 support (no proxy support yet). SOCKS 5 proxy support may have gotten
581 a little better as a side-effect. Twinkies and penguin points to all
582 of the crazy patch writers, who did more than their fair share this
583 release. | |
584 | |
8553 | 585 Ethan: My birthday was yesterday, and not on the same day as Rob |
586 and Nathan's sister. And I don't mean that Rob and Nathan have the
587 same sister. For this release, I thought about making IRC better, I
588 thought about making Tcl better, and I committed patches from several
589 others who actually did these things. And probably some other
590 things, too. Let's hear it for crazy patch writers, and for the open
591 source philosophy that lets them get so CRAZY.
592 | |
8047 | 593 0.75 (01/09/2004): |
594 Rob: Woah, what's this? Me? Making a NEWS post!? Say it ain't so!
595 That's right, kiddos, I'm finally coming out of my reclusiveness.
596 I had a pretty shitty few months, and also just needed a break from
597 things. But, I'm back, and that's good. Right? Yes. And now,
598 a little word from Eric Warmenhoven.. :P
599 | |
8049 | 600 Eric: Ah, Rob and Eric. Just like the good ol' days. Now, if |
601 you'll excuse me, I have to go make some commits with Led Zeppelin
602 lyrics as my commit logs. heh. What do you mean, I look a lot
603 like Sean Egan? I'm... oh fine, you got me. It's really just Sean
604 in an Eric Warmenhoven costume.
605 | |
606 So, Yahoo! works again, and that's good. And 0.76 is going to have
607 something _very_ neat.
608 | |
8050 | 609 Nathan: You're running out of excuses to not use Jabber. Our chat |
610 support is now bar-some, quickly approaching bar-none! Everything
611 else in Jabber got neat improvements too. I'll leave it up to you
612 to figure out what they were.

686 login stuff, now that it is finalized in the XMPP drafts. Oh, and
687 we now have a release notification plugin, so you can find out when

7394 | 722 Ethan: In complete defiance of history, I did something this |
723 release. It had to do with IRC. If I type here for long
724 enough, I'm sure I'll remember what it was... Oh yeah, all of
725 you paranoid people can hide your local username by changing
726 your IRC account settings. I also want to note that we are
727 aware that building Gaim is Harder than it Should Be on
728 Solaris, and I am seeking solutions to some of the issues
729 there. Everyone remember to give some love to the developers
730 who actually did something of note this release (i.e. not me)!
731 | |
7397 | 732 Nathan: Jabber got a ton better this release, as I fixed most of the |
733 bugs introduced in the last release. Registration works again, and
734 the next person to break it is going to suffer. I also fixed a

746 too many problems. There are a lot of little nice feature additions, |
9395 | 747 and much progress has been made on the core/UI split. We should be done |
748 in a couple of releases, assuming we can get the remaining two or three
749 parts core/UI-split. Oh, and plugin authors are going to hate me again,
750 as a lot of code (specifically, the conversations code and utility
751 functions) changed names. This is a Good Thing (TM), as always, but may
752 require modifications to some plugins. Not all, fortunately, but some
753 :) Many SSL problems were fixed, though we still have some to go. If
754 you don't have SSL, you now need it for MSN. MSN won't even load without

780 more responsibly, but I've been meaning to do that for months.
7226 | 781 Except the Tcl part, the Tcl plugin hasn't even existed for months. |

6134 | 923 Sean: Although I tend to go right here in the two slot in NEWS, |
924 we don't always commit in this order. This is the third time I've
925 rewritten this because the jerks below me keep commiting while I'm
926 writing causing mass conflictination. Grrr. Stupid jerks. Anyway,
927 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
928 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
929 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother
930 reading the other people's NEWS. It's all boring. There's some
931 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.
932 Great, now Luke just committed NEWS causing more conflictination.
933 I wouldn't bother reading his either. Oh, and I don't want to thank
934 Megan (Cae) or Kevin (SimGuy). They're stupid jerks too. Grrr...
935 | |
6129 | 936 Mark: I actually did stuff for this release. Go me. I probably |
937 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
938 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 939 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |
6129 | 940 Christian and Nathan. We had some help from a few civilians |
941 finding and fixing bugs. Thanks to Megan (Cae), Ka-Hing Cheung
6130 | 942 (javabsp), and Kevin Stange (SimGuy) for their work. Man, I was just |

6133 | 968 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
969 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
970 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
971 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
972 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
973 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
974 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
975 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look
976 through preferences again anyway, alot of you are starting to
977 forget that things are optional again. :-)

5410 | 1064 Nathan: It seems like 0.62 was forever and a day ago. I had to look |
1065 at the ChangeLog to remember what I did. Apparently I made it so you
1066 can put chats in your buddy list. And then I tweaked a bunch of stuff
1067 and fixed a bunch of crashes. Then exams came, and then I went home
1068 for a week and left my laptop's power cable here at school, so I didn't
1069 get anything done. Jabber will get all sorts of fun new stuff for
1070 the next release. Really. ;-)
1071 | |
5403 | 1072 0.62 (04/23/2003): |
5193 | 1073 Sean: This is just another standard bi-weekly Gaim release. Nothing |
1074 really interesting, but it has some good bugfixes. Personally, I've
1075 been a bit removed from Gaim development lately what with school getting
1076 tough and stuff, but the rest of the guys have really been doing great
1077 work without me. Thanks, guys.

9395 | 1086 Luke: I didn't do much here besides the odd translation patch and a |
1087 couple bug fix patches. This is primarily a bug fix release, and much
1088 needed at that. Didn't get a chance to write sorting code, work has been
1089 busy. Hopeefully it will happen for 0.63.
5196 | 1090 |
5197 | 1091 Mark: Gaim is coming along quite beautimously. I'm going to eat |
1092 my Pop-tarts now. | |
1093 | |
9395 | 1094 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this |
1095 release, and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports
1096 XHTML-IM. In plain english, this means that you can now format your
1097 jabber messages, and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML
1098 still needs some work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that
1099 will come in time. That time would come sooner if my CS prof accepted
1100 "I was hacking on Gaim" as a valid excuse for an extension ;-)
5198 | 1101 |
5058 | 1102 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 1103 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
1104 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
1105 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
1106 faucet. It drips all night.
1107 | |
9395 | 1108 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) |
1109 but not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything
1110 since 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from
1111 Dave Camp is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and
1112 thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 1113 |
5058 | 1114 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
1115 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
1116 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
1117 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
1118 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

9395 | 1126 Luke: Okay, i'm probly the least cool, so I'll go last. I committed a |
1127 few patches from other people here, nothing earth shattering though. The
1128 biggest thing in this release is the group re-ordering bug fix, having
1129 that fixed will make for fewwer questions. Get used to using releases
1130 people, we want to use cvs for actual development :-).
5076 | 1131 |
5078 | 1132 Mark: I didn't want to write any news without actually having done |
1133 anything, so I fixed a meaningless compile warning. Boo-yeah.
1134 | |
5077 | 1135 Sean: Luke can't spell "fewer". How un-cool is that? |
1136 | |
5023 | 1137 0.60 (04/04/2003): |
1138 Rob: Wow. So, it has been a really long time since we started the
1139 gtk2 fork. It's finally ready for public consumption. Sean is about
1140 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right
1141 now pouring me a shot of his choice. Everyone, raise your beers if
1142 you've got them. It's been a cool almost 10-months of development.
1143 I hope you all enjoy. Drink'em if you got'em!
1144 | |
5024 | 1145 Sean: I'm writing this 3 minutes before my 21st birthday. Nobody can |
1146 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
1147 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
1148 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.
1149 Even the ChangeLog is somewhat incomplete. Yay, I'm 21 now! Everyone
1150 enjoy! :) | |
1151 | |
5025 | 1152 Nathan: Happy birthday Sean! Rob decided to let me start cleaning up |
1153 after everyone, so here I am. "sexy" is the only word that can be used
1154 to describe 0.60. Prepare to be shocked and amazed. /me raises his
1155 (shot) glass ;-) | |
1156 | |
9395 | 1157 Christian: Geeeeeze this took a long time. Worth it though! Personally, |
1158 I thought we'd all just give up on releases altogether and tell
1159 everybody just to grab CVS. I'm pretty happy with this release. I was
1160 able to contribute quite a bit to it. Makes me feel proud to be a gaim
1161 developer! I'm really looking forward to the future releases. I have
1162 some neat stuff planned. Yay, I'm still 19! Mmmm, Sierra Mist. Make me a

1189 didn't go out on time. Oh well. I would like to welcome
1190 Jim Seymour aboard the development team. He's going to be taking

1192 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 1193 |
3243 | 1194 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |
1195 important security fix for MSN and a few nice new features.
1196 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
1197 | |

1199 Rob's a mango. | |
1200 | |
3173 | 1201 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 1202 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
1203 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
1204 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
1205 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
1206 our minds ;-). | |
1207 | |
3179 | 1208 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
1209 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
1210 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
1211 cooler, I promise.
3173 | 1212 |
3144 | 1213 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
1214 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
1215 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
1216 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
1217 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
1218 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
1219 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
1220 annoying style problem.
1221 | |
1222 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
1223 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
1224 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
1225 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
1226 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
1227 future. | |
3114 | 1228 |
3113 | 1229 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
1230 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
1231 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
1232 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
1233 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
1234 | |
3110 | 1235 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
1236 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
1237 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 1238 |
3053 | 1239 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
1240 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
1241 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
1242 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
1243 | |
3054 | 1244 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
1245 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
1246 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
1247 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 1248 |

1250 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
1251 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
1252 | |
1253 | |
1254 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
1255 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
1256 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
1257 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
1258 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
1259 notification too. Hooray!
1260 | |
2978 | 1261 |
2961 | 1262 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 1263 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
1264 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
1265 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
1266 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
1267 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
1268 | |
1269 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
1270 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
1271 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
1272 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
1273 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
1274 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
1275 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
1276 next release ;) | |

1283 after over a month, Sorry for the delay, all. Things got really
1284 hectic around the gaim house hold. This release isn't as complete

1632 | |
1289 | 1633 0.11.0-pre1 (12/03/2000): |
1199 | 1634 Rob: Hey guys! Guess what!? Yup, you're correct! It's the pre1 |
1635 release of 0.11.0. We have all sorts of goodies in this release!
1636 Check out the ChangeLog file. As always if you find any bugs,
1637 please report them on www.sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/
1195 | 1638 |
1639 You may find several small bugs as this is still a prerelease.
1192 | 1640 |
1199 | 1641 You may want to note that my IRC plugin does not have full |
1642 functionality as of yet. All of the important / commands will be
1643 added before the final release. Also, if someone could send me
1644 some good buddylist pixmaps for the irc plugin then I'd much
1645 appreciate it. Thanks to everyone who made this new release possible!
1194 | 1646 |
1195 | 1647 If you have any ideas, comments, or suggestions, please let us know |
1199 | 1648 either by e-mail or via the source forge message board at the URL |
1649 above. :) | |
1194 | 1650 |
1192 | 1651 |
1195 | 1652 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
1653 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
1654 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
1655 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
1656 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
1657 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
1658 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
1659 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
1660 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

170 | 1829 0.9.15: |
219 | 1830 Hey boy's and girls. There's not much to say here this time. |
1831 We're loving Southern California, the new job's going great. We just
1832 got our company website up and the product development is going pretty
1833 smooth. Life's pretty sweet now.
1834 | |
1835 We've hacked up all kinds of goodies for you in 0.9.15. There's
1836 some file transfer (receive) support for those of you who have been
1837 wanting it for a while. There's some other misc. goodies tossed in as
1838 well. Enjoy!! Oh yeah, we need a new website. Come up with a sweet
1839 design and get in touch with me. The current site is at:
1840 http://www.marko.net/gaim
1841 | |
1842 Thanks much! | |

76 | 1845 0.9.14: |
104 | 1846 Well, there's a few random hacks and fixes in here, along with |
1847 a little suprise. You guessed it, kiddos, support for plugins! Happy
1848 hacking! | |
76 | 1849 |
56 | 1850 0.9.13: |
69 | 1851 Not much to say for this release. Bug fixes, That's all. Look |
1852 for the goodies I promised in 0.9.13 to appear in 0.9.14 which should be
1853 released very soon now.
56 | 1854 |
71 | 1855 By the way, our CVS is now hosted over at source forge. Go check |
1856 it out at http://www.sourceforge.net. Please check there before submitting
1857 any bug reports (You can read our CVS comments to see if we have fixed any
1858 problems). | |

7 | 1860 0.9.12: |
25 | 1861 Well guys, looks like we got some nifty things in this version. |
1862 TrueType Fonts are supported for those XFSTT buffs out there (or whatever
1863 else you use). A crap load of those plaguing memory leaks have FINALLY been
1864 fixed. My brother, Jeramey, and a new friend Peter Teichan helped stomp
1865 those babies out. A rad guy by the name of Eric Warmenhoven has been
1866 really sweet lately and has all but rewritten the Gnome Applet support :).
1867 He submitted patch after patch. I finally got annoyed with him (just kidding bud)
1868 and gave him CVS access. Look for Gnome Applet support in Gaim to start improving.
1869 That's about all for now. I wanted to get this release out there. File Receive
1870 support will be in 0.9.13 which is due out soon.
7 | 1871 |

1873 Jeramey got a new Comfy Chair! Its very very comfy! Whee!
1874 Jim also had a little hyper-drunken moment and started hacking away at

1875 a new configuration format for Gaim. Looks like we're running .gaimrc |
0 | 1876 version 1 now. Gotta love it. I got bored and hacked in a couple font |
1877 properties that will, in time, contain more features. That's about it
1878 for this version -- cept for that memory leak we fixed. Shush! We're
1879 not plumbers! -- rob

1881 ** Extra special update **
1882 | |
1883 Well guys, it looks like we all stopped working on gaim, moved to California,
1884 and took up a new job. Don't worry though, those beach bums out here havent
1885 worn off on us yet. I've decided to pick up the Gaim torch myself and continue
1886 development ont he prohect. Hopefully we wont have any more five month braks in
1887 the project. Sorry about that, guys :)
1888 | |
1889 0.9.10: | |
1890 Umm. Dont ask. Silly memory leak. For those of you who
1891 wondered, you were losing about 256 bytes every 25 seconds for each
1892 person you have on your contact list. Make fun of us. Better yet ..
1893 Send us beer. We'll do better :)
1894 | |
1895 0.9.9: | |

1897 problems with Gaim working properly, please check out the FAQ file. It |
0 | 1898 contains a nice fix submitted by one of our users. I hope this works for |
1899 you guys! | |
1900 Jim appears to have intoxicated himself. This is, as always, a
1901 Good Thing (tm). His late-night adventure with the liquid-bread food group
1902 lead to the birth of a nice little feature called `The Lag-O-Meter'. Dont
1903 ask, just try it out :). It is pretty pointless if you have a super-fast
1904 connection but if you are a modem user, like many of us are, then try it out.
1905 There's also some idle preferences and some other little random
1906 bug fixes. Check'em out yo :)
1907 | |
1908 0.9.8: | |
1909 Get Along Lil' Doggies. Heh. Looks like we have yet another new
1910 version of gaim for you guys to play with. Be gentle now, it has a few
1911 new fetures. The HTML widget is now more robust and we have *da da da*
1912 HTTP proxy support.
1913 Oh By The Way, Do not pay too much attention to what we are doing
1914 with this release. We are all a little bit happy tonight. You must love
1915 life. This is a special release of gaim. We will be releasing some wonderful
1916 photographs soon .. or perhaps if we get the bloody webcam working then we
1917 will take a couple of quick snapshots.

1918 Looks like the Gaim developers convention (cool name huh) that we |
0 | 1919 had this weekend in Auburn, AL went wonderfully :). yum yum yum. Hahahah. Oh |
1920 by the way. Beware of insecure rednecks in the deli. Bad things.
1921 In (non)related news, Jeramey could not successfully slaughter the
1922 one pound hamburger that he ordered. (I think he could have done it but he
1923 wasn't feeling very well at the time).
1924 Oh Yes, New Logo Too :) You likes? Thanks, Naru!
1925 Just a little side-note: it looks like we didnt make the release that
1926 we had expected during the Gaim Convention. Maybe we partied too much? I am
1927 not sure. I remember watching the sun rise before I went to bed, though.
1928 Oh well. Here's your release! Enjoy!
1929 By The Way, we have uploaded our party pictures to a website.
1930 http://www.dorky.net/gaim/party/ They are nothing spectacular but I hope you
1931 enjoy them! :). | |
1932 | |
1933 0.9.7: | |
1934 Well, boys and girls, it's that time again! Yup, time for the good
1935 release fairy to come bless us with her infinite wisdom and divine presence.
1936 Umm, yeah, something like that. Anyways, this release has several little
1937 "bad" network fixes (as Jim likes to say) and a couple touch-ups to a few
1938 other features. It also features preliminary oscar support. Thanks to Jim
1939 and Adam ("the libfaim guy") hehe :) We have also corrected a problem with
1940 gaim not wainting to correctly save your password if you have an underscore
1941 in it. Thanks to w1za7d for pointing out the underscore problem. ' and \
1942 have also been fixed in passwords. :o)
1943 | |
1944 0.9.6: | |
1945 Sorry about the little segfaulting bugs in the past release. Rob
1946 is stupid. :). Anyways, they have been patched up and a couple new features
1947 have been added. I hope you guys enjoy.
1948 | |
1949 0.9.5: | |
1950 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
1951 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
1952 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
1953 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
1954 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
1955 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
1956 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
1957 gotta love those pranks, eh?
1958 | |
1959 0.8.0: | |
1960 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
1961 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
1962 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
1963 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
1964 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
1965 want to get it out there.
