re-enable something that qulogic wrote but commented out because of a previous string freeze, makes us display the textual ADL error if possible References #8988

You can also generate this documentation locally by installing
doxygen and graphviz dot, then running "make docs" in the
source tree.  The documentation will be in the docs/html directory.
