Enable the extra warnings regardless of --enable-debug.
Enable FORTIFY_SOURCE regardless of --enable-debug, adding a --disable-fortify flag to configure.
Enable (well, stop disabling) the missing initializer warnings.
This leads to warnings with: GValue v = {0,}; that must be worked around.
Basically, instead of:
GValue v = {0,};
...
g_value_init(&v, G_TYPE_FOO); /* or other use of the GValue */
We'd need to do:
GValue v;
...
v.g_type = 0;
g_value_init(&v, G_TYPE_FOO); /* or other use of the GValue */
Fix several cases of missing initializers. I don't think any of these are bugs, but having this warning seems like a good idea. It might prevent us from making a mistake in the future.
While I was fixing missing initializers, I optimized substitute_simple_word in plugins/spellchk.c, in the same way as I did substitute_word before. Yes, I'm bad for committing these together.
Added a --enable-fatal-asserts flag to configure. As the name implies, this makes g_return_... guards fatal. This is a useful flag to run on a debug copy of Gaim. It will make it very clear if your changes have triggered one of these guards. It's also useful in detecting g_return_... abuse, which helps prevent crashes if Gaim is compiled with G_DISABLE_ASSERT defined.

| 8849 | 1 SILC Gaim Plugin |
| 2 ================ | |
| 3 | |
| 4 This is Gaim protocol plugin of the protocol called Secure Internet Live | |
| 5 Conferencing (SILC). The implementation will use the SILC Toolkit, | |
| 6 freely available from the http://silcnet.org/ site, for the actual SILC | |
| 7 protocol implementation. | |
| 8 | |
| 9 To include the SILC into Gaim, one needs to first compile and install | |
| 10 the SILC Toolkit. It is done as follows: | |
| 11 | |
| 12167 | 12 ./configure --enable-shared |
| 8849 | 13 make |
| 14 make install | |
| 15 | |
| 16 This will compile shared libraries of the SILC Toolkit. If the --prefix | |
| 17 is not given to ./configure, the binaries are installed into the | |
| 18 /usr/local/silc directory. | |
| 19 | |
| 20 Once the Toolkit is installed one needs to tell for the Gaim ./configure | |
| 12167 | 21 script where the SILC Toolkit is located. It is done as simply as: |
| 22 | |
| 23 ./configure | |
| 24 | |
| 25 if pkg-config is installed in your system. If it is isn't it's done as: | |
| 8849 | 26 |
| 27 ./configure --with-silc-libs=/path/to/silc/lib | |
| 28 --with-silc-includes=/path/to/silc/include | |
| 29 | |
| 30 If the Toolkit cannot be located the SILC will not be compiled into the | |
| 31 Gaim. |
