[gaim-migrate @ 8315] Christian, this wasn't implemented on purpose. Contacts are not to be found. If you're trying to find them, you're doing something wrong. Very wrong. They are nameless and faceless (but not aliasless, by popular demand) entities but they're not to be taken seriously. Also, there can be 50 contacts that would all be equally valid to return searching for a given name in a group, hence the (continued) non-existence of this function.
