Section 3.2 Operation

3.2.1 Overview

This chapter covers the use of the Japanese text input method of Wnn.

This input method of Wnn is designed to allow input by a
straightforward procedure, and will be explained here based on
representative environment settings.

These input method settings may be changed. Refer to Section 3.3,
Japanese Language Processing Environment, for details.

3.2.2 Environment Settings

The following is a representative set of environment settings.

(2) Input Mode

There are two forms of Japanese input as follows:

(1) Romaji Input - Roman(ASCII) characters are input and converted
    first to hiragana which is then converted to Kanji Input with an
    initial setting of "romaji".

(2) Kana Ianput - Kana is input directly and converted to Kanji.

* "HANKAKU Alphabet" is left half of JISX0201, "half width alphabet"
  is same meaning.
* "ZENKAKU Alphabet" is alphabet in JISX0208.  "full width alphabet"
  is same meaning.
* "1 byte Katakana" is right half of JISX0201, "half width kana" and
  "HANKAKU KATAKANA" are same meaning.

### "1 byte Katakana" cannot input by nemacs(Nihongo emacs).
### So, I use Katakana(ZENKAKU) in this manuaal.
### Sorry, this may be trouble you to understand.


(3) Switching mode

To switch between Hiragana and Katakana input mode, press Function 1
key.
To switch between Zenkaku and Hankaku input mode, press Function 2
key.
To switch between Romaji and Kana input mode, press Function 3 key.


To switch 
During Romaji input mode, pressing "q" switches to ASCII input mode
[ q ].

During Romaji input mode, pressing "Q" switches to Zenkaku input mode
[ Q ].

To return to Romaji input mode, press "^G".

To switch from ASCII mode to Zenkaku input mode, press Function 2 key.

Usage notes:
## Default configlation may be not allowed Hankaku Katakana input.
## Beacause nemacs is not allowed Hankaku Katakana.
## And most mail system are not allowed, too.

The "Hira/Kata" key: This key switches between hiragana and katakana
input mode. Press the '-' key while holding down the Meta key.

The "Zenkaku/Hankaku" key: This key switches between Zenkaku and
Hankaku input mode. Press the '^' key while holding down the Meta'
key.

The "Romaji/Kana" key: This key switches between Romaji and Kana input
mode.  Press the '\' key while holding down the Meta key.

NOTE: If you want to use Kana input mode, then by making the following
      changes to the /usr/local/lib/wnn/rk/mode file, mode display
      will start out in the Zenkaku Hiragana input mode, and ASCII
      input mode can be entered by setting the Kana_Lock "off".

      The below are the necessary changes:

## Latest version is changed from "/usr/local/lib/wnn/rk/mode" to 
## "/usr/local/lib/wnn/rk/ja_JP/mode".



NOTE: If you want to use Hankaku Katakana, then by making the following
      changes to the /usr/local/lib/wnn/rk/mode file.

	% cd /usr/local/lib/wnn/rk
	% mv mode mode.sv
	% ln -s mode.hankata mode

      If you do not want to use Hankaku Katakana, then by making the
      following changes to the /usr/local/lib/wnn/rk/mode file.

	% cd /usr/local/lib/wnn/rk
	% mv mode mode.sv
	% ln -s mode.nohankata mode
