82 .SH DESCRIPTION | |
83 .I mplayer | |
2099 | 84 MPlayer is a movie player for LINUX (runs on many other Unices, and |
85 non-x86 CPUs, see section 6). It plays most MPEG, AVI and ASF/WMV files,
86 supported by many native and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD,
87 SVCD, DVD and even DivX movies too (and you don't need the avifile library
88 at all!). The another big feature of mplayer is the wide range of
89 supported output drivers. It works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib,
90 fbdev, AAlib, but you can use SDL (and this way all drivers of SDL) and
91 some lowlevel card-specific drivers (for Matrox, 3Dfx and Radeon) too!
92 Most of them supports software or hardware scaling, so you can enjoy
93 movies in fullscreen. And what about the nice big antialiased shaded
94 subtitles (7 supported types!!!) with european/ISO 8859-1,2 (hungarian,
95 english, czech, etc), cyrillic, korean fonts, and OSD?

97 .SH "GENERAL OPTIONS"
98 .TP | |
99 .I NOTE | |
2099 | 100 Every "flag" option has "noflag" pair, e.g. -fs opposite is -nofs |
1 | 101 .TP |
2099 | 102 .B \-gui |
103 start MPlayer with the GUI mode. You have to compile it in, for details
104 see the documentation.
790 | 105 .TP |
1714 | 106 .B \-dvd\ titleid |
107 tell MPlayer which movies (marked with titleid) to play. For example
108 sometimes '1' are trailers, and '2' is the real movie.
109 .TP | |
110 .B \-chapter\ chapterid
111 specify which chapter to start playing at. Examples can be found below.
112 .TP | |
113 .B \-dvdangle\ angleid
114 some DVD discs contain scenes that can be viewed from multiple angles.
2099 | 115 Here you can tell MPlayer which angles to use. Examples can be found below. |
1714 | 116 .TP |
1287 | 117 .B \-vo\ <driver>[:<device>] |
1288 | 118 select video output driver and optinaly device. "device" is valid with |
119 SDL and GGI too, it means sub-driver then (for example: -vo sdl:aalib).
1 | 120 |
121 you can get the list of available drivers executing
122 .I mplayer -vo help | |
123 | |
124 .TP | |
1287 | 125 .B \-ao\ <driver>[:<device>] |
1288 | 126 select audio output driver and optinaly device. "device" is valid with |
2099 | 127 SDL too, it means sub-driver then (for example: -vo sdl:esd). |
1208 | 128 |
129 If using OSS, you can specify which sound device to use like this :
1288 | 130 -ao oss:/dev/dsp1 (replaces the old -dsp option) |
986 | 131 |
132 you can get the list of available drivers executing
133 .I mplayer -ao help | |
134 | |
135 .TP | |
523 | 136 .B \-vcd\ track |
1 | 137 play video cd track from device instead of plain file |
138 .TP | |
523 | 139 .B \-nosound |

1 | 162 apply postprocess filter on decoded image. |
163 You need a STRONG CPU in order to use this!
164 The supported formats and settings are:
165 | |
181 | 166 MPEG 1/2 0 (none), 1, 3, 7, 15, 31, 63 |
167 OpenDivX 0 (none), 1, 3, 7, 15, 31, 63

1493 | 171 .TP |
172 .B \-autoq\ quality
173 dynamically changes the level of postprocess, depending on spare CPU
174 time available. Uses the same value ranges as -pp . The number you
175 specify will be the maximum level used. Usually you can use some big
1714 | 176 number. You don't have to (and don't) use together with -pp ! |
1 | 177 .TP |
