1 SUBTITLES
2 ---------
3 Yes, mplayer also supports many kinds of subtitles. Currently (2001/06/01)
4 7 kinds of subtitle can be used by the subreader code. To see what are
5 these subtitle formats, see subreader.c, line ~20.
6
7 Subtitles are displayed with a technique called 'OSD', On Screen Display.
8 OSD is used to display current time, volume bar, seek bar etc.

12 ----------------------
13
14 You need an mplayer font package to be able to use OSD/SUB feature.
15 There are many ways to get it:
16
17 1. use the font generator tool at TOOLS/subfont-c
18 It's a complete tool to convert from TTF/Type1/etc font to mplayer font pkg.
19 (read TOOLS/subfont-c/README for details)

20

21 2. use the font generator GIMP plugin at TOOLS/subfont-GIMP

22 (note: you must have HSI RAW plugin too, see URL below)

24 3. download ready-to-use font packages from mplayer site.
25 Note: currently available fonts are only for limited iso 8859-1/2 support,
26 and there is a few special version for korean, russian etc codepages.
27 You'd better building font yourself with tool mentioned above.
28
29 some usefull URLs:
30 ftp://ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/ - ISO fonts, OBSOLETED!
31 ftp://ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/contrib/fonts/ - various fonts by users
32 http://realtime.ssu.ac.kr/~lethean/mplayer - korean fonts & RAW plugin
33

34 After that, UNZIP the files to ~/.mplayer/font/
941
35 Now you have to see a clock at the upper left corner of the movie
36 (switch it off with 'o')
37
38 OSD has 3 states: (switch with 'o')
39 - clock + volume bar + seek bar + sub (default)
40 - volume bar + seek bar + sub
41 - only sub

43 You can change default behaviour by setting osdlevel= variable in config file.
