Felipe Contreras (aka revo aka shx) writes:
" Basically that, currently gaim will not display
international "subjects" or "from" fields from emails,
like "a??a" or "Pa?l".
This implements the propper RFC that specify the format
for those fields."

3 Sean: Christian and Nathan were wrong.
4 | |
5 Ethan: I don't know how solid or good this release will be, but
6 hopefully it's better than 0.73! Not that 0.73 didn't rock or
7 anything, but for those users bit by its peculiar little bugs
8 it wasn't as nice as this will be.
9 | |
10 Nathan: Jabber got some good tweaks, and logging doesn't eat
11 memory until the cows come home. Which is good, because they
12 said they'll be out until late.
13 | |
14 Luke: Always nice when directories get created correctly ;-)
15 | |
7593 | 16 0.73 (11/21/2003): |
17 Nathan: This should be a really solid release. I fixed most if not
18 all of the idiotic Jabber bugs from 0.72, and re-enabled the SASL
19 login stuff, now that it is finalized in the XMPP drafts. Oh, and
20 we now have a release notification plugin, so you can find out when
21 the latest and greatest version of Gaim is out without breaking that
22 reload button in your browser. There's other fun new stuff, but I
23 forget what it is. | |

58 you paranoid people can hide your local username by changing

105 the XMPP protocol specs, and will automagically upgrade the conncetion

113 more responsibly, but I've been meaning to do that for months.
7226 | 114 Except the Tcl part, the Tcl plugin hasn't even existed for months. |

6658 | 177 Nathan: I didn't do much for this release, except make Jabber |
178 registration work, and put in a slight tweak to make Gaim work a
179 little better with jabberd2. Next release you'll all see what I've
180 been spending my time on, but for now enjoy the fruits of everyone
181 else's labor. | |
182 | |
6681 | 183 Mark: I've been really busy with other stuff, but I've spent my |
184 Gaim-time on working towards a more formal translation process.
185 Hopefully this will result in Gaim shipping with more complete
186 translation files. Also, all our awesome translators are mentioned
187 in the about window now.

6134 | 256 Sean: Although I tend to go right here in the two slot in NEWS, |
257 we don't always commit in this order. This is the third time I've
258 rewritten this because the jerks below me keep commiting while I'm
259 writing causing mass conflictination. Grrr. Stupid jerks. Anyway,
260 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
261 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
262 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother
263 reading the other people's NEWS. It's all boring. There's some
264 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.
265 Great, now Luke just committed NEWS causing more conflictination.
266 I wouldn't bother reading his either. Oh, and I don't want to thank
267 Megan (Cae) or Kevin (SimGuy). They're stupid jerks too. Grrr...
268 | |
6129 | 269 Mark: I actually did stuff for this release. Go me. I probably |
270 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
271 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 272 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |
6129 | 273 Christian and Nathan. We had some help from a few civilians |
274 finding and fixing bugs. Thanks to Megan (Cae), Ka-Hing Cheung
6130 | 275 (javabsp), and Kevin Stange (SimGuy) for their work. Man, I was just |

6133 | 301 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
302 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
303 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
304 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
305 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
306 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
307 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
308 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look

5558 | 351 Mark: I never really have anything important to add. I'd just like to |

358 releases. However, that's okay. Work has been pretty friggin hec-
359 tic, so, that's my excuse. Work is finally going to be slowing down
360 some. I plan to be doing more Gaim work. That makes me happy. That

366 flavored props to everyone whose been helping out while I stayed away
367 from Gaim to keep myself from failing again, especially Christian and
368 Nathan. | |
369 | |
5404 | 370 Luke: Okay, this is NOT a bug fix release, at least for those of you |
371 who use MSN. Christian put in a TON of effort rewritting the MSN prpl,
372 mega props to him on this release. In other news, we have alot of bugs
373 fixed, and a goodly number of the translations are more up to date
374 than they were in earlier releases. There are some other significant
375 changes, but they are mostly backend stuff, yay for core/ui splits ;-)

5196 | 419 Luke: I didn't do much here besides the odd translation patch and a couple |
420 bug fix patches. This is primarily a bug fix release, and much needed at
421 that. Didn't get a chance to write sorting code, work has been busy.
422 Hopeefully it will happen for 0.63.
423 | |
5197 | 424 Mark: Gaim is coming along quite beautimously. I'm going to eat |
425 my Pop-tarts now. | |
426 | |
5198 | 427 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this release, |
428 and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports XHTML-IM. In
429 plain english, this means that you can now format your jabber messages,
430 and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML still needs some
431 work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that will come in time.
432 That time would come sooner if my CS prof accepted "I was hacking on Gaim"
433 as a valid excuse for an extension ;-)
434 | |
5058 | 435 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 436 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
437 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
438 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
439 faucet. It drips all night.
440 | |
5073 | 441 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) but |
442 not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything since
443 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from Dave Camp
5079 | 444 is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and thanks to |
445 everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 446 |
5058 | 447 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
448 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
449 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
450 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
451 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

461 thing in this release is the group re-ordering bug fix, having that fixed

473 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right

476 I hope you all enjoy. Drink'em if you got'em!
477 | |
5024 | 478 Sean: I'm writing this 3 minutes before my 21st birthday. Nobody can |
479 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
480 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
481 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.

524 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 525 |
3243 | 526 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |

528 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
529 | |

532 | |
3173 | 533 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 534 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
535 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
536 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
537 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
538 our minds ;-). | |
539 | |
3179 | 540 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
541 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
542 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
543 cooler, I promise. | |
3173 | 544 |
3144 | 545 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
546 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
547 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
548 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
549 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
550 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
551 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
552 annoying style problem.
553 | |
554 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
555 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
556 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
557 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
558 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
559 future. | |
3114 | 560 |
3113 | 561 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
562 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
563 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
564 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
565 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
566 | |
3110 | 567 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
568 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
569 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 570 |
3053 | 571 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
572 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
573 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
574 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
575 | |
3054 | 576 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
577 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
578 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
579 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 580 |

582 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
583 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
584 | |
585 | |
586 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
587 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
588 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
589 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
590 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
591 notification too. Hooray!
592 | |

2961 | 594 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 595 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
596 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
597 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
598 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
599 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
600 | |
601 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
602 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
603 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
604 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
605 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
606 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
607 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
608 next release ;) | |
609 | |

2933 | 613 0.51 (01/24/2002): |
2934 | 614 Rob: Well, here we go. I FINALLY got around to making a release |
615 after over a month, Sorry for the delay, all. Things got really
616 hectic around the gaim house hold. This release isn't as complete
617 as I had hoped, but I promised to get something out. There's some
618 neat goodies in mind for the next release, right Sean? :-)

1199 | 966 Rob: Hey guys! Guess what!? Yup, you're correct! It's the pre1 |
967 release of 0.11.0. We have all sorts of goodies in this release!
968 Check out the ChangeLog file. As always if you find any bugs,
969 please report them on www.sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/
1195 | 970 |
971 You may find several small bugs as this is still a prerelease.
1192 | 972 |
1199 | 973 You may want to note that my IRC plugin does not have full |
974 functionality as of yet. All of the important / commands will be
975 added before the final release. Also, if someone could send me
976 some good buddylist pixmaps for the irc plugin then I'd much
977 appreciate it. Thanks to everyone who made this new release possible!
1194 | 978 |
1195 | 979 If you have any ideas, comments, or suggestions, please let us know |

1192 | 983 |
1195 | 984 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
985 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
986 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
987 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
988 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
989 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
990 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
991 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
992 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

170 | 1160 0.9.15: |
219 | 1161 Hey boy's and girls. There's not much to say here this time. |
1162 We're loving Southern California, the new job's going great. We just
1163 got our company website up and the product development is going pretty
1164 smooth. Life's pretty sweet now.
1165 | |
1166 We've hacked up all kinds of goodies for you in 0.9.15. There's
1167 some file transfer (receive) support for those of you who have been
1168 wanting it for a while. There's some other misc. goodies tossed in as
1169 well. Enjoy!! Oh yeah, we need a new website. Come up with a sweet
1170 design and get in touch with me. The current site is at:
1171 http://www.marko.net/gaim
1172 | |
1173 Thanks much! | |

76 | 1176 0.9.14: |
104 | 1177 Well, there's a few random hacks and fixes in here, along with |
1178 a little suprise. You guessed it, kiddos, support for plugins! Happy
1179 hacking! | |
76 | 1180 |
56 | 1181 0.9.13: |
69 | 1182 Not much to say for this release. Bug fixes, That's all. Look |
1183 for the goodies I promised in 0.9.13 to appear in 0.9.14 which should be
1184 released very soon now.
56 | 1185 |
71 | 1186 By the way, our CVS is now hosted over at source forge. Go check |
1187 it out at http://www.sourceforge.net. Please check there before submitting
1188 any bug reports (You can read our CVS comments to see if we have fixed any
1189 problems). | |
1190 | |
7 | 1191 0.9.12: |
25 | 1192 Well guys, looks like we got some nifty things in this version. |
1193 TrueType Fonts are supported for those XFSTT buffs out there (or whatever
1194 else you use). A crap load of those plaguing memory leaks have FINALLY been
1195 fixed. My brother, Jeramey, and a new friend Peter Teichan helped stomp
1196 those babies out. A rad guy by the name of Eric Warmenhoven has been
1197 really sweet lately and has all but rewritten the Gnome Applet support :).
1198 He submitted patch after patch. I finally got annoyed with him (just kidding bud)
1199 and gave him CVS access. Look for Gnome Applet support in Gaim to start improving.
1200 That's about all for now. I wanted to get this release out there. File Receive
1201 support will be in 0.9.13 which is due out soon.
7 | 1202 |
0 | 1203 0.9.11: |
1204 Jeramey got a new Comfy Chair! Its very very comfy! Whee!
1205 Jim also had a little hyper-drunken moment and started hacking away at

1206 a new configuration format for Gaim. Looks like we're running .gaimrc |
0 | 1207 version 1 now. Gotta love it. I got bored and hacked in a couple font |
1208 properties that will, in time, contain more features. That's about it
1209 for this version -- cept for that memory leak we fixed. Shush! We're

1212 ** Extra special update **
1213 | |
1214 Well guys, it looks like we all stopped working on gaim, moved to California,
1215 and took up a new job. Don't worry though, those beach bums out here havent
1216 worn off on us yet. I've decided to pick up the Gaim torch myself and continue
1217 development ont he prohect. Hopefully we wont have any more five month braks in
1218 the project. Sorry about that, guys :)
1219 | |
1220 0.9.10: | |
1221 Umm. Dont ask. Silly memory leak. For those of you who
1222 wondered, you were losing about 256 bytes every 25 seconds for each
1223 person you have on your contact list. Make fun of us. Better yet ..
1224 Send us beer. We'll do better :)

1228 problems with Gaim working properly, please check out the FAQ file. It |
0 | 1229 contains a nice fix submitted by one of our users. I hope this works for |
1230 you guys! | |
1231 Jim appears to have intoxicated himself. This is, as always, a
1232 Good Thing (tm). His late-night adventure with the liquid-bread food group
1233 lead to the birth of a nice little feature called `The Lag-O-Meter'. Dont
1234 ask, just try it out :). It is pretty pointless if you have a super-fast
1235 connection but if you are a modem user, like many of us are, then try it out.
1236 There's also some idle preferences and some other little random
1237 bug fixes. Check'em out yo :)
1238 | |
1239 0.9.8: | |
1240 Get Along Lil' Doggies. Heh. Looks like we have yet another new
1241 version of gaim for you guys to play with. Be gentle now, it has a few
1242 new fetures. The HTML widget is now more robust and we have *da da da*
1243 HTTP proxy support.
1244 Oh By The Way, Do not pay too much attention to what we are doing
1245 with this release. We are all a little bit happy tonight. You must love
1246 life. This is a special release of gaim. We will be releasing some wonderful
1247 photographs soon .. or perhaps if we get the bloody webcam working then we
1248 will take a couple of quick snapshots.

1249 Looks like the Gaim developers convention (cool name huh) that we |
0 | 1250 had this weekend in Auburn, AL went wonderfully :). yum yum yum. Hahahah. Oh |
1251 by the way. Beware of insecure rednecks in the deli. Bad things.
1252 In (non)related news, Jeramey could not successfully slaughter the
1253 one pound hamburger that he ordered. (I think he could have done it but he
1254 wasn't feeling very well at the time).
1255 Oh Yes, New Logo Too :) You likes? Thanks, Naru!
1256 Just a little side-note: it looks like we didnt make the release that
1257 we had expected during the Gaim Convention. Maybe we partied too much? I am
1258 not sure. I remember watching the sun rise before I went to bed, though.
1259 Oh well. Here's your release! Enjoy!
1260 By The Way, we have uploaded our party pictures to a website.
1261 http://www.dorky.net/gaim/party/ They are nothing spectacular but I hope you
1262 enjoy them! :). | |
1263 | |
1264 0.9.7: | |
1265 Well, boys and girls, it's that time again! Yup, time for the good
1266 release fairy to come bless us with her infinite wisdom and divine presence.
1267 Umm, yeah, something like that. Anyways, this release has several little
1268 "bad" network fixes (as Jim likes to say) and a couple touch-ups to a few
1269 other features. It also features preliminary oscar support. Thanks to Jim
1270 and Adam ("the libfaim guy") hehe :) We have also corrected a problem with
1271 gaim not wainting to correctly save your password if you have an underscore
1272 in it. Thanks to w1za7d for pointing out the underscore problem. ' and \
1273 have also been fixed in passwords. :o)
1274 | |
1275 0.9.6: | |
1276 Sorry about the little segfaulting bugs in the past release. Rob
1277 is stupid. :). Anyways, they have been patched up and a couple new features
1278 have been added. I hope you guys enjoy.
1279 | |
1280 0.9.5: | |
1281 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
1282 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
1283 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
1284 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
1285 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
1286 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
1287 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
1288 gotta love those pranks, eh?
1289 | |
1290 0.8.0: | |
1291 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
1292 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
1293 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
1294 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
1295 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
1296 want to get it out there.
1297 |
