5193 | 3 0.62 (04/23/2002): |
4 Sean: This is just another standard bi-weekly Gaim release. Nothing
5 really interesting, but it has some good bugfixes. Personally, I've
6 been a bit removed from Gaim development lately what with school getting
7 tough and stuff, but the rest of the guys have really been doing great
8 work without me. Thanks, guys.
9 | |
5058 | 10 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 11 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
12 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
13 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
14 faucet. It drips all night.
15 | |
5073 | 16 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) but |
17 not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything since
18 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from Dave Camp
5079 | 19 is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and thanks to |
20 everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 21 |
5058 | 22 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
23 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
24 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
25 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
26 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

5076 | 34 Luke: Okay, i'm probly the least cool, so I'll go last. I committed a few |
35 patches from other people here, nothing earth shattering though. The biggest
36 thing in this release is the group re-ordering bug fix, having that fixed
5079 | 37 will make for fewwer questions. Get used to using releases people, we want |
38 to use cvs for actual development :-).
5076 | 39 |
5078 | 40 Mark: I didn't want to write any news without actually having done |
41 anything, so I fixed a meaningless compile warning. Boo-yeah.
42 | |
5077 | 43 Sean: Luke can't spell "fewer". How un-cool is that? |
44 | |
5023 | 45 0.60 (04/04/2003): |
46 Rob: Wow. So, it has been a really long time since we started the
47 gtk2 fork. It's finally ready for public consumption. Sean is about
48 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right
49 now pouring me a shot of his choice. Everyone, raise your beers if
50 you've got them. It's been a cool almost 10-months of development.
51 I hope you all enjoy. Drink'em if you got'em!
52 | |
5024 | 53 Sean: I'm writing this 3 minutes before my 21st birthday. Nobody can |
54 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
55 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
56 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.
57 Even the ChangeLog is somewhat incomplete. Yay, I'm 21 now! Everyone
58 enjoy! :) | |
59 | |
5025 | 60 Nathan: Happy birthday Sean! Rob decided to let me start cleaning up |
61 after everyone, so here I am. "sexy" is the only word that can be used
62 to describe 0.60. Prepare to be shocked and amazed. /me raises his
63 (shot) glass ;-) | |

3334 | 79 0.59 (06/24/2002): |
3289 | 80 Rob: I guess Sean is busy at home or something and Jim is asleep. |
81 I'm very tired but it's time for a release. Enjoy. :)
3334 | 82 SORRY FOR THE DELAY. :( |
83 | |
3335 | 84 Sean: It's been a long time since our last release, and for no |
85 good reason either. Rob and I just haven't been able to get together
86 to do it. But now we have. Aside from some Jabber changes and some
87 crucial MSN fixes, most of this release's changes are transparent,
88 but none-the-less important. Well get some better changes when my
3336 | 89 computer works again, you have my word* |
90 | |
91 *My word is worthless.
3335 | 92 |
3248 | 93 |
3241 | 94 0.58 (05/13/2002): |
3242 | 95 Rob: Yeah, so, my computer has been bad which is why the release |
96 didn't go out on time. Oh well. I would like to welcome
97 Jim Seymour aboard the development team. He's going to be taking
98 over the work on our Jabber code as well as doing various other
99 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 100 |
3243 | 101 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |
102 important security fix for MSN and a few nice new features.
103 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
104 | |
3244 | 105 Jim: Hmmm... Rob said I have to say *something*, so here it is: |
106 Rob's a mango. | |
107 | |
3173 | 108 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 109 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
110 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
111 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
112 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
113 our minds ;-). | |
114 | |
3179 | 115 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
116 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
117 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
118 cooler, I promise. | |
3173 | 119 |
3144 | 120 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
121 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
122 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
123 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
124 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
125 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
126 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
127 annoying style problem.
128 | |
129 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
130 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
131 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
132 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
133 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
134 future. | |
3114 | 135 |
3113 | 136 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
137 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
138 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
139 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
140 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
141 | |
3110 | 142 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
143 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
144 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 145 |
3053 | 146 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
147 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
148 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
149 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
150 | |
3054 | 151 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
152 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
153 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
154 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 155 |
2993 | 156 0.53 (02/28/2002): |
157 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
158 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
159 | |
160 | |
161 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
162 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
163 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
164 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
165 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
166 notification too. Hooray!
167 | |
2978 | 168 |
2961 | 169 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 170 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
171 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
172 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
173 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
174 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
175 | |
176 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
177 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
178 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
179 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
180 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
181 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
182 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
183 next release ;) | |
184 | |
2967 | 185 Rob: Operation Evil does not exist! ;-) |
2961 | 186 |
2935 | 187 |
2933 | 188 0.51 (01/24/2002): |
2934 | 189 Rob: Well, here we go. I FINALLY got around to making a release |
190 after over a month, Sorry for the delay, all. Things got really
191 hectic around the gaim house hold. This release isn't as complete
192 as I had hoped, but I promised to get something out. There's some
193 neat goodies in mind for the next release, right Sean? :-)

427 I think I just won the award for the most cliches used in one

1195 | 559 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
560 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
561 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
562 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
563 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
564 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
565 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
566 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
567 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

856 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
857 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
858 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
859 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
860 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
861 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
862 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
863 gotta love those pranks, eh?
864 | |
865 0.8.0: | |
866 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
867 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
868 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
869 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
870 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
871 want to get it out there.
