[gaim-migrate @ 9424]
"This patch contains two fixes. The first is rather trivial, just removes
the declaration of extra pointer used for deleting a message and
deletes the message directly.
The second is the real bug that needed fixing.
Short Explanation:
The old code only fixed the message that was being displayed, and
still sent the original unchecked message to the receiving party. All I
did was add a handler to the load_plugin function to make it fix the
message being sent as well.
Longer Explanation:
In my cursory look through the gaim code (warning, <15 minutes) it
appears the message pointer send to all the various *-im-msg and
*-chat-msg handlers is a copy of the original string each time. This
means if you fix the string at one stage (displaying), you have to fix it
again at the next (sending). This seems rather inefficient, but hey, it's
your client, maybe it was a design feature.
Anyway, the spellchk plugin was only fixing the displayed
message, and not the message being sent. So I thought my messages
were being fixed while those receiving them new I was screwing up. I
added substitute_somethingorother handler for the sending-im-msg
callback in the load_plugin function.
Other comments:
I didn't look to deeply into it since it's so late, but the
"displaying-chat-msg" and "sending-chat-msg" callbacks appear to
be broken. The spellchk.c currently has a handler registered for the
first callback, but the message displayed on my screen still contains
the original typos. If I try to register a handler for the second callback
listed, Gaim crashes when sending the message to a chat window. As
I said, I didn't look into why it was crashing, I just removed my
attempt to handle it and built this patch." --Matt Brenneke

8548 | 4 Sean: Yeah, it's been a long time since the last release, and despite |
5 what others may tell you, we were just really lazy. This is pretty
6 much just 0.75 again, but, like, someone changed the "Info" icon and
7 I think, like, the Chinese translation may have been updated. We did
8 nothing interesting on it at all. Others may tell you "we haven't just
9 been lazy," or "you guys will find that we've managed to do some neat
10 stuf in this one." They lie. All of them.
11 | |
8540 | 12 Luke: Okay, normally I wait for Sean to go first, but he said to commit. |
13 Its been a few months since the last release, but we haven't just been
14 lazy. A very long ChangeLog for you all. Most notably of course is the
15 addition of WYSIWYG input for chats and conversations. Many thanks to
16 DAYS of long work by Sean, Gary Kramlich, Kevin Stange, Tim Ringenbach,
17 and Stu Tomlinson for their efforts writting, fixing, and testing this.
18 Without the dedicated support of our crazy patch writters, this release
19 would have taken yet longer. Sean also has yahoo working again, with some
20 assistance from our friends over at Trillian, you may all officially
21 rejoice. We also have a large number of bug fixes, closing more than 200
22 bug reports this month alone.

8542 | 31 Mark: Our crazy patch writers rock. Gary Kramlich, Tim Ringenbach, |
32 Kevin Stange, and Stu Tomlinson did an amazing job of tying up
33 loose ends and helping get this release out the door. Thanks guys!
8547 | 34 |
8543 | 35 Rob: My birthday is in a few days. I like cool stuff. Buy me something |
36 grand!! | |
8542 | 37 |
8547 | 38 Tim: Luke said write a NEWS, so I thought I would. There's a room |
39 list dialog now. And Nathan and I doubled the number of protocols that
40 can transfer files. After that I got lazy/busy and let Gary, Kevin,
41 and Stu fix all the bugs.
42 | |
8551 | 43 Nathan: Rob happens to share a birthday with my sister. So far she's |
44 been very vague about what she wants. She's not an easy person to shop
45 for. As for things you probably care more about, this release has so
46 much in it that I've forgotten about most of it. The stupidest of the
47 bugs from 0.75 are fixed. Jabber has a first pass at file transfer
48 support (no proxy support yet). SOCKS 5 proxy support may have gotten
49 a little better as a side-effect. Twinkies and penguin points to all
50 of the crazy patch writers, who did more than their fair share this
51 release. | |
52 | |
8553 | 53 Ethan: My birthday was yesterday, and not on the same day as Rob |
54 and Nathan's sister. And I don't mean that Rob and Nathan have the
55 same sister. For this release, I thought about making IRC better, I
56 thought about making Tcl better, and I committed patches from several
57 others who actually did these things. And probably some other
58 things, too. Let's hear it for crazy patch writers, and for the open
59 source philosophy that lets them get so CRAZY.
60 | |
8047 | 61 0.75 (01/09/2004): |
62 Rob: Woah, what's this? Me? Making a NEWS post!? Say it ain't so!
63 That's right, kiddos, I'm finally coming out of my reclusiveness.
64 I had a pretty shitty few months, and also just needed a break from
65 things. But, I'm back, and that's good. Right? Yes. And now,
66 a little word from Eric Warmenhoven.. :P
67 | |
8049 | 68 Eric: Ah, Rob and Eric. Just like the good ol' days. Now, if |
69 you'll excuse me, I have to go make some commits with Led Zeppelin
70 lyrics as my commit logs. heh. What do you mean, I look a lot
71 like Sean Egan? I'm... oh fine, you got me. It's really just Sean
72 in an Eric Warmenhoven costume.
73 | |
74 So, Yahoo! works again, and that's good. And 0.76 is going to have
75 something _very_ neat.
76 | |
8050 | 77 Nathan: You're running out of excuses to not use Jabber. Our chat |
78 support is now bar-some, quickly approaching bar-none! Everything
79 else in Jabber got neat improvements too. I'll leave it up to you
80 to figure out what they were.

142 anything, but for those users bit by its peculiar little bugs
143 it wasn't as nice as this will be.
144 | |
145 Nathan: Jabber got some good tweaks, and logging doesn't eat
146 memory until the cows come home. Which is good, because they
147 said they'll be out until late.

153 all of the idiotic Jabber bugs from 0.72, and re-enabled the SASL
154 login stuff, now that it is finalized in the XMPP drafts. Oh, and
155 we now have a release notification plugin, so you can find out when
156 the latest and greatest version of Gaim is out without breaking that

248 more responsibly, but I've been meaning to do that for months.
7226 | 249 Except the Tcl part, the Tcl plugin hasn't even existed for months. |

395 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
396 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
397 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother
398 reading the other people's NEWS. It's all boring. There's some
399 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.
400 Great, now Luke just committed NEWS causing more conflictination.
401 I wouldn't bother reading his either. Oh, and I don't want to thank
402 Megan (Cae) or Kevin (SimGuy). They're stupid jerks too. Grrr...
403 | |
6129 | 404 Mark: I actually did stuff for this release. Go me. I probably |
405 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
406 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 407 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |
6129 | 408 Christian and Nathan. We had some help from a few civilians |
409 finding and fixing bugs. Thanks to Megan (Cae), Ka-Hing Cheung
6130 | 410 (javabsp), and Kevin Stange (SimGuy) for their work. Man, I was just |
6129 | 411 looking at Sean's NEWS entry for 0.64--that's talent. Also, stay |
412 in school. Just say no. Only you can prevent forest fires.

6133 | 436 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
437 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
438 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
439 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
440 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
441 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
442 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
443 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look
444 through preferences again anyway, alot of you are starting to
445 forget that things are optional again. :-)
446 | |
6137 | 447 Nathan: I think I did something for this release a while ago. I've |
448 got a mailbox full of commit emails, and some have my name on them,
449 so I must have done something, right? Probably some minor jabber stuff,
450 and lots of crazy bugfixes. It was a team effort, I'd like to thank the
451 academy, our producer Rob Flynn, and of course all the fans. You rock.

470 already in CVS (don't use CVS). The only obvious new feature for 0.64
471 is buddy list sorting. This has been much requested and can be set in
472 the buddy list preferences. You can sort by name, by status, and even
473 by log file size--putting people you talk to most at the top. Plugins
474 can even easily add their own sorting methods. It's all very cool. I

5198 | 562 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this release, |
563 and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports XHTML-IM. In
564 plain english, this means that you can now format your jabber messages,
565 and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML still needs some
566 work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that will come in time.
567 That time would come sooner if my CS prof accepted "I was hacking on Gaim"
568 as a valid excuse for an extension ;-)
569 | |
5058 | 570 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 571 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
572 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
573 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
574 faucet. It drips all night.
575 | |
5073 | 576 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) but |
577 not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything since
578 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from Dave Camp
5079 | 579 is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and thanks to |
580 everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 581 |
5058 | 582 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
583 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
584 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
585 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
586 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

5076 | 594 Luke: Okay, i'm probly the least cool, so I'll go last. I committed a few |
595 patches from other people here, nothing earth shattering though. The biggest
596 thing in this release is the group re-ordering bug fix, having that fixed
5079 | 597 will make for fewwer questions. Get used to using releases people, we want |
598 to use cvs for actual development :-).

606 Rob: Wow. So, it has been a really long time since we started the
607 gtk2 fork. It's finally ready for public consumption. Sean is about
608 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right
609 now pouring me a shot of his choice. Everyone, raise your beers if
610 you've got them. It's been a cool almost 10-months of development.
611 I hope you all enjoy. Drink'em if you got'em!
612 | |
5024 | 613 Sean: I'm writing this 3 minutes before my 21st birthday. Nobody can |
614 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
615 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
616 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.
617 Even the ChangeLog is somewhat incomplete. Yay, I'm 21 now! Everyone
618 enjoy! :) | |
619 | |
5025 | 620 Nathan: Happy birthday Sean! Rob decided to let me start cleaning up |
621 after everyone, so here I am. "sexy" is the only word that can be used
622 to describe 0.60. Prepare to be shocked and amazed. /me raises his

3334 | 639 0.59 (06/24/2002): |
3289 | 640 Rob: I guess Sean is busy at home or something and Jim is asleep. |
641 I'm very tired but it's time for a release. Enjoy. :)
3334 | 642 SORRY FOR THE DELAY. :( |
643 | |
3335 | 644 Sean: It's been a long time since our last release, and for no |
645 good reason either. Rob and I just haven't been able to get together
646 to do it. But now we have. Aside from some Jabber changes and some
647 crucial MSN fixes, most of this release's changes are transparent,
648 but none-the-less important. Well get some better changes when my
3336 | 649 computer works again, you have my word* |
650 | |
651 *My word is worthless.
3335 | 652 |
3248 | 653 |
3241 | 654 0.58 (05/13/2002): |
3242 | 655 Rob: Yeah, so, my computer has been bad which is why the release |
656 didn't go out on time. Oh well. I would like to welcome
657 Jim Seymour aboard the development team. He's going to be taking
658 over the work on our Jabber code as well as doing various other
659 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 660 |
3243 | 661 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |
662 important security fix for MSN and a few nice new features.
663 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
664 | |
3244 | 665 Jim: Hmmm... Rob said I have to say *something*, so here it is: |
666 Rob's a mango. | |
667 | |
3173 | 668 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 669 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
670 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
671 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
672 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
673 our minds ;-). | |
674 | |
3179 | 675 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
676 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
677 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
678 cooler, I promise. | |
3173 | 679 |
3144 | 680 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
681 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
682 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
683 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
684 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
685 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
686 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
687 annoying style problem.
688 | |
689 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
690 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
691 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
692 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
693 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
694 future. | |
3114 | 695 |
3113 | 696 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
697 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
698 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
699 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
700 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
701 | |
3110 | 702 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
703 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
704 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 705 |
3053 | 706 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
707 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
708 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
709 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
710 | |
3054 | 711 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
712 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
713 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
714 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 715 |
2993 | 716 0.53 (02/28/2002): |
717 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
718 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
719 | |
720 | |
721 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
722 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
723 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
724 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
725 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
726 notification too. Hooray!
727 | |
2978 | 728 |
2961 | 729 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 730 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
731 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
732 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
733 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
734 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
735 | |
736 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
737 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
738 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
739 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
740 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
741 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
742 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
743 next release ;) | |
744 | |
2967 | 745 Rob: Operation Evil does not exist! ;-) |
2961 | 746 |
2935 | 747 |
2933 | 748 0.51 (01/24/2002): |
2934 | 749 Rob: Well, here we go. I FINALLY got around to making a release |
750 after over a month, Sorry for the delay, all. Things got really
751 hectic around the gaim house hold. This release isn't as complete
752 as I had hoped, but I promised to get something out. There's some
753 neat goodies in mind for the next release, right Sean? :-)

863 myself included, due to poor management. I've taken a new
864 job which required moving across the country. I'm finally back

1195 | 1119 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
1120 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
1121 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
1122 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
1123 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
1124 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
1125 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
1126 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
1127 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

1391 Just a little side-note: it looks like we didnt make the release that
1392 we had expected during the Gaim Convention. Maybe we partied too much? I am
1393 not sure. I remember watching the sun rise before I went to bed, though.
1394 Oh well. Here's your release! Enjoy!
1395 By The Way, we have uploaded our party pictures to a website.
1396 http://www.dorky.net/gaim/party/ They are nothing spectacular but I hope you
1397 enjoy them! :). | |

1399 0.9.7: | |
1400 Well, boys and girls, it's that time again! Yup, time for the good
1401 release fairy to come bless us with her infinite wisdom and divine presence.
1402 Umm, yeah, something like that. Anyways, this release has several little
1403 "bad" network fixes (as Jim likes to say) and a couple touch-ups to a few
1404 other features. It also features preliminary oscar support. Thanks to Jim
1405 and Adam ("the libfaim guy") hehe :) We have also corrected a problem with
1406 gaim not wainting to correctly save your password if you have an underscore
1407 in it. Thanks to w1za7d for pointing out the underscore problem. ' and \
1408 have also been fixed in passwords. :o)
1409 | |
1410 0.9.6: | |
1411 Sorry about the little segfaulting bugs in the past release. Rob
1412 is stupid. :). Anyways, they have been patched up and a couple new features
1413 have been added. I hope you guys enjoy.
1414 | |
1415 0.9.5: | |
1416 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
1417 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
1418 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
1419 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
1420 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
1421 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
1422 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
1423 gotta love those pranks, eh?
1424 | |
1425 0.8.0: | |
1426 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
1427 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
1428 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
1429 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
1430 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
1431 want to get it out there.
