Get rid of the oscar time offset. This was an attempt at making sure
the "online since" tooltip for buddies in your buddy list was
accurate even if your clock was wrong.
However, it completely falls apart if you're signed in from more
than one location. So I'm taking it out completely. If anyone
wants to figure out a way to determine the offset between your
local computer clock and the real time using some feature of the
oscar protocol then feel free.
In the mean time I'm fine with telling people to freaking fix
their clock. Fixes #698.

17246 | 3 2.0.1 (5/24/2007): |
4 Sean: 2.0.1! Three weeks later, as scheduled! It is so nice to have
5 regular, frequent, releases again! This is a bugfix release; We have
17248 | 6 fixed over 100 issues reported to us at http://developer.pidgin.im. |
17246 | 7 Thanks to everyone for their great work, and look for the next release |
17247 | 8 in another three weeks! |
9 | |
17248 | 10 Stu: Lots'o'fixes in this. I don't know how you users find so many |
11 things for us to fix. 24 hours in a day (sadly). 24 is divisible by the
12 sum of its digits and by their product. It is the smallest composite
13 number, the product of whose divisors is a cube.
17246 | 14 |
17247 | 15 Luke: I requested that we have a bug fix release, and so we have! |
16 Many, though unfortunately not all, of the reports that have been
17 submitted to us since 2.0.0 have been fixed now, and so you should
18 all have a much more stable experience with this release. I also
19 want to thank the many users who have resubmitted their reports
20 as we close out the old Source Forge bug tracker. If all goes well,
21 your report will get the attention it deserves as we continue to
22 work on Pidgin, Finch, and libpurple.
17246 | 23 |
17255 | 24 Nathan: A ton of fixes have gone into this release. The feedback |
25 we've gotten on 2.0.0 has been incredible. Hopefully we've resolved
26 most of the critical issues with 2.0.1. If we haven't, I'm sure
27 our wonderful users will let us hear about it. I seem to be
28 forgetting something...oh, right, I haven't promised any cool new
29 features in the next release! So, I promise at least one cool new
30 feature in the next release...you just might have to adjust your
31 definition of 'cool' to get it.

16855 | 61 Evan: One small step for bird, one giant leap for birdkind... except |
62 this is hardly one small step. A lot more has changed from Gaim 1.5.0
63 than just the name. Pidgin has a *very* attractive new look, a whole
64 new member of the family (Finch, formerly gaim-console) has been born,
65 and libpurple has come into its own as a solid, full-featured library
66 powering the greatest IM clients around. Bugs were fixed and
67 features were added by the hundreds (thousands?) since the last
68 major release, all while improving performance and resisting feature
69 creep. As Luke said, a ton of thought and effort has gone into
70 Pidgin 2.0.0; I'm proud to have played a part.

98 2.0.0beta7 (4/29/2007): |
16690 | 99 Sean: Beta 7. The final beta. A few major changes from beta6. For |
100 starters, we have some new names. That's pretty cool. We have a new
101 logo, to go along with it. And a lot of great icons! As Nathan mentions
102 below, we're totally back in the open now, having a signed agreement
103 from AOL that puts us in the clear. We all really regret having to go
104 completely dark for so long. Anyway, unlike betas1-6, which were of
105 normal release quality, this one is actually beta quality. There are
106 a few significant known issues, and a lot of changes that need a lot
107 of real-world testing. So, if you'd like to help us out, give it a
108 whirl, and let us know if you run into any major issues.
109 | |
16005 | 110 Nathan: So, the secret is out now. We renamed to Pidgin. I'd just |
111 like to apologize to everyone we've had to keep in the dark for the
112 last however-many months. I know it looked like development slowed
113 to a crawl, but in reality we've been working pretty hard to get
114 2.0.0 out the door, without getting into any legal trouble. I
115 realize that if we were some big corporation, we'd be getting flamed
116 about this secrecy for months. Please try to remember that we're
117 just a bunch of geeks who were scared of legal stuff (well, at least
118 I was. Scared, that is). The bottom line is that we're out in the
119 open again, and fully plan to stay that way. We're also opening up
120 the mail archives from the secretive past few months. You can scan
16697 | 121 through them if you want, or I can summarize. "Are the lawyers done |
16005 | 122 yet? No. Now? No. How about now? No." All lawyer jokes aside, |
123 I'm grateful to our legal team for crossing all the 't's and dotting
124 all the lowercase 'j's to get us the deal we got. Anyways, thanks
125 for your patience, and on to 2.0.1!
126 | |
16694 | 127 Gary: Well my silence, and our silence has ended. Finally the name |
128 change is over and done with and we can go back to a normal dev
129 cycle. Now if I can just get myself back onto a normal dev cycle,
130 but that's another story all together.

12527 | 212 2.0.0beta1 (12/17/2005): |
12541 | 213 Sean: I think Nathan sums everything up really well below. There's still |
214 a bunch we want to add (and remove) before the official release, but we
215 really want to start getting feedback about what's good and what's not.
216 So, please, be vocal about this beta!
12519 | 217 |
12541 | 218 Nathan: 15 months since we branched oldstatus, and started working on |
219 the behemoth that is 2.0.0. In that time, we've added a couple new
220 protocols, we had a few crazy patch writers become developers, and
221 had a few more people step up to be crazy patch writers. Sean wrote
222 a book, and we arbitrarily decided to make a version 1.0.0, and a
223 new versioning scheme. We got new artwork, and added almost 200 lines
224 to the ChangeLog. We've watched 2 major GTK+ releases, and added all
225 kinds of features using them. OK, I've wasted enough bits here. This
226 beta rocks, but it is a beta. Treat it as such, and enjoy!

12541 | 235 Tim: Well here it is, the first beta. There's a lot of cool things in |
236 here, but not all of them are finished or debugged. But then that's
237 why it's called a beta. Conversations are now contact-aware, and
238 there's a new status selector. There's smooth scrolling on incoming
239 messages as well. Our Crazy Patch Writers have been doing a good
240 job too, it seems like we're never lacking some patches in the
241 tracker to review. | |
12514 | 242 |
12541 | 243 Etan: I know I'm not going to be able to think of all the things I should |
244 talk about here so I'll just go with the stuff I remember. Adding buddies
245 on ejabberd jabber servers should work more correctly now (it's possible
246 adding buddies on other servers is a bit broken currently I'm still
247 looking into it). There are still other jabber issues I'm looking into
248 with handling of buddies.
249 In other topics, I finally brought my Accounts menu into gaim, though the
250 current example of it isn't exactly what I had in mind, anyone with any
251 suggestions/comments/etc about it please speak up.
252 Other than the stuff I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention this beta should
253 be awesome as gaim 2.0.0 is going to be awesome. Have fun with it.
12514 | 254 |
12541 | 255 Luke: pretty much everything important has been said, so this is going to |
256 be rather repetative. This is a beta folks, so it will have bugs. It
257 will crash unexpectedly. Perhaps even frequently. Use it at your peril.
258 But do use it (though you might want to back up ~/.gaim first), and let us
259 know what needs to be fixed.

380 1.1.2 (1/20/2005): |
12541 | 381 Luke: Another Bug fix release. This one featuring a fix to the HTTP |
382 Method for MSN users and other MSN fixes. A big thanks to Stu and
383 Felipe Contreras for those. Stu also spent a long time in valgrind
384 and so this brings you a Gaim release with fewer memory leaks. This
385 release is on time primarily because I want to see the MSN fixes
386 make it into Debian and Fedora before freezes. Expect further bug
387 fix only releases to come at longer intervals, at Mark's request.

402 I started working on Gaim-vv again though, and I merged someone's

10128 | 469 1.0.2 (10/19/2004): |
470 Stu: I'm new around here. I tried to reduce the number of bugs in the bug
471 tracker, but it turns out that the only way to achieve that is to actually
472 _fix_ the bugs. So I fixed a couple, and then sneaked some patches out of
473 the patch tracker to fix some others. Sadly the bug tracker was not
474 significantly affected, maybe if I learn C I'll be able to make more of an
475 impact. | |
476 | |
477 Luke: Don't let Stu fool you, he has done a marvelous job on this release,
478 and deserves a lot of credit for it. And a number of those bug fixes are
479 critical ones that he discovered and fixed himself. So go update. Now.
480 | |
481 Nathan: On the other hand, Nathan has done nothing for this release. Why
482 do we keep him around again?
483 | |
484 Tim: So, I'm married now, and in Huntsville. I don't remember if I did
485 anything for this release or not, probably not. Bleeter has been more
486 active lately though, perhaps we'll see lots of cool things from him
487 soon. | |
488 | |
489 Sean: I'm down here with the "didn't do anything" guys.
490 | |
10089 | 491 1.0.1 (10/07/2004): |
492 Congratulations to Tim & Kim on their wedding!
493 | |
494 Sean: So, if you're playing along at home, you're aware that
495 incrementing the micro version number means that the API has
496 not changed at all. Although that itself is insignificant to
497 most everyone but plugin developers, but users won't find too
498 many significant changes. Consult ChangeLog. We're currently
499 branched for some major changes, so expect a really great 2.0.0
500 sometime relatively soon.
501 | |
502 Luke: Nothing much to see here, some bug fixes. Most of the work
503 is going towards the 2.0.0 release. We aren't quite sure when
504 that will be, and will keep the bug fix releases coming untill
505 all is ready. | |
506 | |
507 Christian: I would call this a ground-breaking release, but it isn't.
508 It seems like a good one, though. I dunno. I've been too busy at VMware,
509 unfortunately, but have some work that's just waiting to be finished up
510 for Gaim. Gaim 2.0.0 is going to rock. Gaim 3.0.0 will rock more.
511 Do you see a pattern? Thanks go out to Henry Jen for fixing up parts of
512 the gevolution plugin to support multiple addressbooks, and to all our
513 moms, for believing in us. Or something.
514 | |
515 Nathan: I got a new computer. It's fast. And has twice the bits!
516 | |
10034 | 517 1.0.0 (09/17/2004): |
518 Nathan: Hah! Bet you weren't expecting this! OK, if you were
519 paying any attention to the flame^H^H^H^H^Hthread on gaim-devel,
520 you might have been expecting this. But here it is, 1.0.0. Our
521 new versioning scheme has slightly more meaning than the older
522 one (expecially for plugin authors), but our 1.0(.0) release is
523 just as meaningless as we could have hoped. Enjoy!
524 | |
525 Luke: We've changed our pattern for version numbers with this
526 release, we are no longer simply counting versions. This release
527 then marks, not something traditionally "1.0" but the current
528 version of the api. When backwards compatability with that breaks
529 you'll see 2.0, more details in the faq. As a side note, if you
530 are reading this and are good with proxy code or with perl's XS C
531 bindings, please get in touch with me, my contact info is on the
532 website. Gaim could use your help.
533 | |
534 Mark: I love a circus.

9872 | 536 0.82 (08/25/2004): |
9852 | 537 Rob: Woah, where did I come from? |
8540 | 538 |
9871 | 539 Mark: Lately I've been doing a lot more code maintenance/patch |
540 accepting/bug fixing type of work. And I think that's a really
541 good thing. I feel like Gaim is becoming more stable. It
9878 | 542 seems like we're lacking fewer features. It makes me warm. |
9871 | 543 Quick Robin! To the traverse wall! |
544 | |
9872 | 545 Nathan: Well, it looks like we stuck to the schedule again. Had |
546 we taken our dear sweet time, I might have had a chance to do
547 something cool for this release, but instead I stuck to the minor
548 stuff. <insert empty promises for the cool stuff i'll code for
549 next time here> | |
550 | |
9873 | 551 Tim: Lately I've been doing a lot more patch accepting, and a |
552 lot less actual coding. Unfortunately it has more to do with my
553 laziness than Gaim's progress. Like Nathan, I'm going to blame
554 our on time release schedule. But that didn't stop our Crazy
555 Patch Writers, or cpw's as grim now calls them, from writing
556 some good patches. So, instead of promising to code something
557 cool for next release, I'm going to promise that the cpw's will
558 code cool things for next release, and I might apply some of them.
559 | |
9877 | 560 Luke: I've been doing what I always do, committing patches, some |
561 better than others, and bugging other people to code stuff. Oh
562 and closing some bugs. Thanks to Dave West for joining the cpws
563 in helping to handle triage. This is mostly a bug fix release,
564 so PLEASE upgrade to it before submitting new bugs.
565 | |
9880 | 566 Kevin: Herman's been away, so Daniel Atallah and myself were given |
567 the task of preparing 0.82's Windows packages. After some feverish
568 plotting, we decided to update GTK and Daniel prepped an update to
569 libpng to address recent security advisories. Besides plotting and
570 a little bit of testing, this NEWS is all I really did. Oh, I also
571 rerefixed the transparency plugin... again! Our beloved Hermanator
572 should be back next time around, for 0.83.
573 | |
9688 | 574 0.81 (08/05/2004): |
575 Sean: Three weeks again! Sticking to schedules is awesome! Just
576 like Gaim v0.81. This is what we in the industry call a "bugfix
577 release." We closed over TWO HUNDRED bugs since 0.80. That's
578 awesome. Thanks to everyone who helped report, triage, fix, and

652 | |
9390 | 653 Nathan: I've been really busy, what with having a new job and all. |
654 I didn't think I had done anything, but apparently I fixed some
655 Jabber stuff, and some IPv6 stuff. I must have been sleepcoding
656 or something, because I haven't had time for such things. Ah well,
657 enjoy this release. We'll see what I can get to in the next 3 weeks.
658 | |
9124 | 659 0.78 (05/30/2004): |
9102 | 660 Luke: A very long time, once again, since the last release. I think |
661 its mostly worth it. A few of you will still have trouble with msn
662 but we've worked out a number of bugs even there. Thanks to heroic
663 efforts on the part of Mark, we closed 400 some odd reports this
664 month. We are also welcoming Tim to the project, a very active
665 crazy patch writer who has brought massive improvements to WYSIWYG
666 and direct im this release. Again, it still won't work for every
667 one, but it will work for more people than it used to. Most
668 noticably, this release brings a LARGE simplicfication of the
669 preferences available. Please don't complain if your favorite
670 preference is no longer there. Take some time to think about
671 how and if it could be useful to a majority of people who use
672 Gaim in ways nothing like you. You'll find that the answer will
673 usually be that the preference isn't all that important.
674 | |
9103 | 675 Tim: I continued with the other crazy patch writers in fixing those |
676 WYSIWYG bugs. Then they went and made me a developer. Which is cool.
677 They told me I could commit WYSIWYG and Yahoo! changes. So I went
678 and fixed IM Image and Direct Connect in AIM for some reason. I also
9106 | 679 added some new Yahoo! smileys at least. Also you change your link |
680 color in your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file now. I might work on some of those
681 new Yahoo! features for next release, like buddy icons. But don't
682 count on it. Thanks to everyone who congratulated me. And thanks
683 to all our Crazy Patch Writers, who now expect me to apply all their
684 Crazy Patches. | |

9106 | 696 Gary: Congrats to Tim, no more competing for most ChangeLog entries. |
697 This means you _should_ be winning every release. Anyways, I didn't
698 finish nearly as much as I wanted to for this release but all of that
699 and then some should appear in 0.79.
700 | |
9108 | 701 Sean: I'll write my entry down here tonight. Removing preferences |
9395 | 702 was my big crusade this week, and the team did a great job at it, |
703 but I still have a nagging feeling that our preferences are still
704 overwhelming. Everyone's been doing a real great job; it's entirely
705 my fault we keep failing to meet our three-week schedule. Send your
706 complaints this way.
9108 | 707 |
9114 | 708 Nathan: I really didn't do much thanks to exams, and graduation, and all |
709 of that fun stuff. For next release, I'll have all new excuses, like my
710 new job, or maybe something I haven't even thought of yet. Oh yeah, and
711 a big warm welcome to Tim!
712 | |
8762 | 713 0.77 (04/22/2004): |
714 Sean: We're back to a somewhat regular release cycle now. Hooray!
9395 | 715 WYSIWYG is much improved in this release, and you can now copy and |
716 paste rich text to and from Gaim and other applications (see: Mozilla,
717 Evolution OpenOffice). Also, Novell has released their first release
718 of their GroupWise plugin, included in this release. Good stuff all
719 around. | |
8762 | 720 |
8763 | 721 Luke: Only a week "late" this time around, much nicer than the delay |
722 before the last release. Anyway, this release sees a HUGE number of
723 improvements to the WYSIWYG support, much thanks to all involved. If
724 you weren't impressed before, you should be now! This release also
725 sees the end of our TOC support, no one has been working on this in
726 some time and its causing problems. DON'T USE IT!. Also plugin
727 authors will want to take note of the fact that the plugin api version
728 changed. A nice solid release for you all :-)
729 | |
8764 | 730 Ethan: Once again I thought about doing some things and committed |
731 things that other people did. This development model is awesome. I
732 helped Mark refactor some stuff and our collective code ownership
733 helped us utilize a coherent system metaphor during our pair program-
734 ming sessions. It was extremely extreme. Look for some hard crypto
735 lovin' from yet another crazy contributor in the near future...
736 | |
8765 | 737 Ka-Hing: I actually did something for this release... or rather, the |
738 previous release, but LSchiere2 didn't commit that until this release.
739 So blame him. System logging is back, so you can log people's signon/
740 off/away/idle-ness again. There may be bugs with it, I don't know, not
741 like I use it. I will try to work on something that I will actually use
742 for the next release.
743 | |
744 Etan: Looking for someone to pair program with.

8540 | 754 0.76 (04/01/2004): |
8548 | 755 Sean: Yeah, it's been a long time since the last release, and despite |
756 what others may tell you, we were just really lazy. This is pretty
757 much just 0.75 again, but, like, someone changed the "Info" icon and
758 I think, like, the Chinese translation may have been updated. We did
759 nothing interesting on it at all. Others may tell you "we haven't just
760 been lazy," or "you guys will find that we've managed to do some neat
761 stuf in this one." They lie. All of them.
9102 | 762 |
8540 | 763 Luke: Okay, normally I wait for Sean to go first, but he said to commit. |
764 Its been a few months since the last release, but we haven't just been
765 lazy. A very long ChangeLog for you all. Most notably of course is the
766 addition of WYSIWYG input for chats and conversations. Many thanks to
767 DAYS of long work by Sean, Gary Kramlich, Kevin Stange, Tim Ringenbach,
9395 | 768 and Stu Tomlinson for their efforts writting, fixing, and testing |
769 this. Without the dedicated support of our crazy patch writters, this
770 release would have taken yet longer. Sean also has yahoo working again,
771 with some assistance from our friends over at Trillian, you may all
772 officially rejoice. We also have a large number of bug fixes, closing
773 more than 200 bug reports this month alone.

8542 | 782 Mark: Our crazy patch writers rock. Gary Kramlich, Tim Ringenbach, |
783 Kevin Stange, and Stu Tomlinson did an amazing job of tying up
784 loose ends and helping get this release out the door. Thanks guys!
8547 | 785 |
8543 | 786 Rob: My birthday is in a few days. I like cool stuff. Buy me something |
787 grand!! | |
8542 | 788 |
8547 | 789 Tim: Luke said write a NEWS, so I thought I would. There's a room |
790 list dialog now. And Nathan and I doubled the number of protocols that
791 can transfer files. After that I got lazy/busy and let Gary, Kevin,
792 and Stu fix all the bugs.
793 | |
8551 | 794 Nathan: Rob happens to share a birthday with my sister. So far she's |
795 been very vague about what she wants. She's not an easy person to shop
796 for. As for things you probably care more about, this release has so
797 much in it that I've forgotten about most of it. The stupidest of the
798 bugs from 0.75 are fixed. Jabber has a first pass at file transfer
799 support (no proxy support yet). SOCKS 5 proxy support may have gotten
800 a little better as a side-effect. Twinkies and penguin points to all
801 of the crazy patch writers, who did more than their fair share this
802 release. | |
803 | |
8553 | 804 Ethan: My birthday was yesterday, and not on the same day as Rob |
805 and Nathan's sister. And I don't mean that Rob and Nathan have the
806 same sister. For this release, I thought about making IRC better, I
807 thought about making Tcl better, and I committed patches from several
808 others who actually did these things. And probably some other
809 things, too. Let's hear it for crazy patch writers, and for the open
810 source philosophy that lets them get so CRAZY.
811 | |
8047 | 812 0.75 (01/09/2004): |
813 Rob: Woah, what's this? Me? Making a NEWS post!? Say it ain't so!
814 That's right, kiddos, I'm finally coming out of my reclusiveness.
815 I had a pretty shitty few months, and also just needed a break from
816 things. But, I'm back, and that's good. Right? Yes. And now,
817 a little word from Eric Warmenhoven.. :P
818 | |
8049 | 819 Eric: Ah, Rob and Eric. Just like the good ol' days. Now, if |
820 you'll excuse me, I have to go make some commits with Led Zeppelin
821 lyrics as my commit logs. heh. What do you mean, I look a lot
822 like Sean Egan? I'm... oh fine, you got me. It's really just Sean
823 in an Eric Warmenhoven costume.
824 | |
825 So, Yahoo! works again, and that's good. And 0.76 is going to have
826 something _very_ neat.
827 | |
8050 | 828 Nathan: You're running out of excuses to not use Jabber. Our chat |
829 support is now bar-some, quickly approaching bar-none! Everything
830 else in Jabber got neat improvements too. I'll leave it up to you
831 to figure out what they were.

905 login stuff, now that it is finalized in the XMPP drafts. Oh, and
906 we now have a release notification plugin, so you can find out when

7394 | 941 Ethan: In complete defiance of history, I did something this |

943 enough, I'm sure I'll remember what it was... Oh yeah, all of
944 you paranoid people can hide your local username by changing
945 your IRC account settings. I also want to note that we are
946 aware that building Gaim is Harder than it Should Be on
947 Solaris, and I am seeking solutions to some of the issues
948 there. Everyone remember to give some love to the developers

965 too many problems. There are a lot of little nice feature additions, |
9395 | 966 and much progress has been made on the core/UI split. We should be done |
967 in a couple of releases, assuming we can get the remaining two or three
968 parts core/UI-split. Oh, and plugin authors are going to hate me again,
969 as a lot of code (specifically, the conversations code and utility
970 functions) changed names. This is a Good Thing (TM), as always, but may
971 require modifications to some plugins. Not all, fortunately, but some
972 :) Many SSL problems were fixed, though we still have some to go. If
973 you don't have SSL, you now need it for MSN. MSN won't even load without

990 even in the parts I wrote. It now supports the SASL login stuff from
991 the XMPP protocol specs, and will automagically upgrade the conncetion

999 more responsibly, but I've been meaning to do that for months.
7226 | 1000 Except the Tcl part, the Tcl plugin hasn't even existed for months. |

6134 | 1142 Sean: Although I tend to go right here in the two slot in NEWS, |
1143 we don't always commit in this order. This is the third time I've
1144 rewritten this because the jerks below me keep commiting while I'm
1145 writing causing mass conflictination. Grrr. Stupid jerks. Anyway,
1146 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
1147 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
1148 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother
1149 reading the other people's NEWS. It's all boring. There's some
1150 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.
1151 Great, now Luke just committed NEWS causing more conflictination.
1152 I wouldn't bother reading his either. Oh, and I don't want to thank
1153 Megan (Cae) or Kevin (SimGuy). They're stupid jerks too. Grrr...
1154 | |
6129 | 1155 Mark: I actually did stuff for this release. Go me. I probably |
1156 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
1157 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 1158 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |
6129 | 1159 Christian and Nathan. We had some help from a few civilians |
1160 finding and fixing bugs. Thanks to Megan (Cae), Ka-Hing Cheung
6130 | 1161 (javabsp), and Kevin Stange (SimGuy) for their work. Man, I was just |

6133 | 1187 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
1188 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
1189 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
1190 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
1191 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
1192 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
1193 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
1194 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look
1195 through preferences again anyway, alot of you are starting to
1196 forget that things are optional again. :-)

5410 | 1283 Nathan: It seems like 0.62 was forever and a day ago. I had to look |
1284 at the ChangeLog to remember what I did. Apparently I made it so you
1285 can put chats in your buddy list. And then I tweaked a bunch of stuff
1286 and fixed a bunch of crashes. Then exams came, and then I went home
1287 for a week and left my laptop's power cable here at school, so I didn't
1288 get anything done. Jabber will get all sorts of fun new stuff for
1289 the next release. Really. ;-)
1290 | |

5193 | 1292 Sean: This is just another standard bi-weekly Gaim release. Nothing |
1293 really interesting, but it has some good bugfixes. Personally, I've
1294 been a bit removed from Gaim development lately what with school getting
1295 tough and stuff, but the rest of the guys have really been doing great

9395 | 1305 Luke: I didn't do much here besides the odd translation patch and a |
1306 couple bug fix patches. This is primarily a bug fix release, and much
1307 needed at that. Didn't get a chance to write sorting code, work has been
1308 busy. Hopeefully it will happen for 0.63.
5196 | 1309 |
5197 | 1310 Mark: Gaim is coming along quite beautimously. I'm going to eat |
1311 my Pop-tarts now. | |
1312 | |
9395 | 1313 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this |
1314 release, and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports
1315 XHTML-IM. In plain english, this means that you can now format your
1316 jabber messages, and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML
1317 still needs some work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that
1318 will come in time. That time would come sooner if my CS prof accepted
1319 "I was hacking on Gaim" as a valid excuse for an extension ;-)
5198 | 1320 |
5058 | 1321 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 1322 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
1323 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
1324 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
1325 faucet. It drips all night.
1326 | |
9395 | 1327 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) |
1328 but not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything
1329 since 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from
1330 Dave Camp is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and
1331 thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 1332 |
5058 | 1333 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
1334 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
1335 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
1336 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
1337 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

9395 | 1345 Luke: Okay, i'm probly the least cool, so I'll go last. I committed a |
1346 few patches from other people here, nothing earth shattering though. The
1347 biggest thing in this release is the group re-ordering bug fix, having
1348 that fixed will make for fewwer questions. Get used to using releases
1349 people, we want to use cvs for actual development :-).
5076 | 1350 |
5078 | 1351 Mark: I didn't want to write any news without actually having done |
1352 anything, so I fixed a meaningless compile warning. Boo-yeah.

1355 | |
5023 | 1356 0.60 (04/04/2003): |
1357 Rob: Wow. So, it has been a really long time since we started the
1358 gtk2 fork. It's finally ready for public consumption. Sean is about
1359 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right
1360 now pouring me a shot of his choice. Everyone, raise your beers if
1361 you've got them. It's been a cool almost 10-months of development.
1362 I hope you all enjoy. Drink'em if you got'em!
1363 | |
5024 | 1364 Sean: I'm writing this 3 minutes before my 21st birthday. Nobody can |
1365 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
1366 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
1367 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.
1368 Even the ChangeLog is somewhat incomplete. Yay, I'm 21 now! Everyone
1369 enjoy! :) | |
1370 | |
5025 | 1371 Nathan: Happy birthday Sean! Rob decided to let me start cleaning up |
1372 after everyone, so here I am. "sexy" is the only word that can be used
1373 to describe 0.60. Prepare to be shocked and amazed. /me raises his
1374 (shot) glass ;-) | |
1375 | |
9395 | 1376 Christian: Geeeeeze this took a long time. Worth it though! Personally, |
1377 I thought we'd all just give up on releases altogether and tell
1378 everybody just to grab CVS. I'm pretty happy with this release. I was
1379 able to contribute quite a bit to it. Makes me feel proud to be a gaim
1380 developer! I'm really looking forward to the future releases. I have

1408 didn't go out on time. Oh well. I would like to welcome

1411 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 1412 |
3243 | 1413 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |
1414 important security fix for MSN and a few nice new features.
1415 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
1416 | |

1419 | |
3173 | 1420 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 1421 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
1422 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
1423 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
1424 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
1425 our minds ;-). | |
1426 | |
3179 | 1427 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
1428 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
1429 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
1430 cooler, I promise.
3173 | 1431 |
3144 | 1432 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
1433 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
1434 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
1435 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
1436 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
1437 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
1438 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
1439 annoying style problem.
1440 | |
1441 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
1442 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
1443 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
1444 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
1445 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
1446 future. | |
3114 | 1447 |
3113 | 1448 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
1449 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
1450 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
1451 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
1452 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
1453 | |
3110 | 1454 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
1455 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
1456 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 1457 |
3053 | 1458 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
1459 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
1460 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
1461 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
1462 | |
3054 | 1463 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
1464 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
1465 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
1466 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 1467 |

1469 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
1470 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
1471 | |
1472 | |
1473 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
1474 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
1475 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
1476 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
1477 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
1478 notification too. Hooray!
1479 | |
2978 | 1480 |
2961 | 1481 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 1482 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
1483 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
1484 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
1485 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
1486 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
1487 | |
1488 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
1489 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
1490 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
1491 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
1492 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
1493 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
1494 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
1495 next release ;) | |

1851 | |
1289 | 1852 0.11.0-pre1 (12/03/2000): |
1199 | 1853 Rob: Hey guys! Guess what!? Yup, you're correct! It's the pre1 |
1854 release of 0.11.0. We have all sorts of goodies in this release!
1855 Check out the ChangeLog file. As always if you find any bugs,
1856 please report them on www.sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/
1195 | 1857 |
1858 You may find several small bugs as this is still a prerelease.
1192 | 1859 |
1199 | 1860 You may want to note that my IRC plugin does not have full |
1861 functionality as of yet. All of the important / commands will be
1862 added before the final release. Also, if someone could send me
1863 some good buddylist pixmaps for the irc plugin then I'd much
1864 appreciate it. Thanks to everyone who made this new release possible!
1194 | 1865 |
1195 | 1866 If you have any ideas, comments, or suggestions, please let us know |
1199 | 1867 either by e-mail or via the source forge message board at the URL |
1868 above. :) | |
1194 | 1869 |
1192 | 1870 |
1195 | 1871 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
1872 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
1873 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
1874 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
1875 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
1876 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
1877 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
1878 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
1879 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

219 | 2049 Hey boy's and girls. There's not much to say here this time. |
2050 We're loving Southern California, the new job's going great. We just
2051 got our company website up and the product development is going pretty
2052 smooth. Life's pretty sweet now.
2053 | |
2054 We've hacked up all kinds of goodies for you in 0.9.15. There's
2055 some file transfer (receive) support for those of you who have been
2056 wanting it for a while. There's some other misc. goodies tossed in as
2057 well. Enjoy!! Oh yeah, we need a new website. Come up with a sweet
2058 design and get in touch with me. The current site is at:
2059 http://www.marko.net/gaim
2060 | |
2061 Thanks much! | |

76 | 2064 0.9.14: |
104 | 2065 Well, there's a few random hacks and fixes in here, along with |
2066 a little suprise. You guessed it, kiddos, support for plugins! Happy
2067 hacking! | |
76 | 2068 |
56 | 2069 0.9.13: |
69 | 2070 Not much to say for this release. Bug fixes, That's all. Look |
2071 for the goodies I promised in 0.9.13 to appear in 0.9.14 which should be
2072 released very soon now.
56 | 2073 |
71 | 2074 By the way, our CVS is now hosted over at source forge. Go check |
2075 it out at http://www.sourceforge.net. Please check there before submitting
2076 any bug reports (You can read our CVS comments to see if we have fixed any
2077 problems). | |
2078 | |
7 | 2079 0.9.12: |
25 | 2080 Well guys, looks like we got some nifty things in this version. |
2081 TrueType Fonts are supported for those XFSTT buffs out there (or whatever
2082 else you use). A crap load of those plaguing memory leaks have FINALLY been
2083 fixed. My brother, Jeramey, and a new friend Peter Teichan helped stomp
2084 those babies out. A rad guy by the name of Eric Warmenhoven has been
2085 really sweet lately and has all but rewritten the Gnome Applet support :).
2086 He submitted patch after patch. I finally got annoyed with him (just kidding bud)
2087 and gave him CVS access. Look for Gnome Applet support in Gaim to start improving.
2088 That's about all for now. I wanted to get this release out there. File Receive
2089 support will be in 0.9.13 which is due out soon.

2092 Jeramey got a new Comfy Chair! Its very very comfy! Whee!
2093 Jim also had a little hyper-drunken moment and started hacking away at

2094 a new configuration format for Gaim. Looks like we're running .gaimrc |
0 | 2095 version 1 now. Gotta love it. I got bored and hacked in a couple font |
2096 properties that will, in time, contain more features. That's about it
2097 for this version -- cept for that memory leak we fixed. Shush! We're
2098 not plumbers! -- rob

2100 ** Extra special update **
2101 | |
2102 Well guys, it looks like we all stopped working on gaim, moved to California,
2103 and took up a new job. Don't worry though, those beach bums out here havent
2104 worn off on us yet. I've decided to pick up the Gaim torch myself and continue
2105 development ont he prohect. Hopefully we wont have any more five month braks in
2106 the project. Sorry about that, guys :)
2107 | |
2108 0.9.10: | |
2109 Umm. Dont ask. Silly memory leak. For those of you who
2110 wondered, you were losing about 256 bytes every 25 seconds for each
2111 person you have on your contact list. Make fun of us. Better yet ..
2112 Send us beer. We'll do better :)
2113 | |
2114 0.9.9: | |
2115 Welp, All of you boys and girls who run Mandrake and have some

2116 problems with Gaim working properly, please check out the FAQ file. It |
0 | 2117 contains a nice fix submitted by one of our users. I hope this works for |
2118 you guys! | |
2119 Jim appears to have intoxicated himself. This is, as always, a
2120 Good Thing (tm). His late-night adventure with the liquid-bread food group
2121 lead to the birth of a nice little feature called `The Lag-O-Meter'. Dont
2122 ask, just try it out :). It is pretty pointless if you have a super-fast
2123 connection but if you are a modem user, like many of us are, then try it out.
2124 There's also some idle preferences and some other little random
2125 bug fixes. Check'em out yo :)
2126 | |
2127 0.9.8: | |
2128 Get Along Lil' Doggies. Heh. Looks like we have yet another new
2129 version of gaim for you guys to play with. Be gentle now, it has a few
2130 new fetures. The HTML widget is now more robust and we have *da da da*
2131 HTTP proxy support.
2132 Oh By The Way, Do not pay too much attention to what we are doing
2133 with this release. We are all a little bit happy tonight. You must love
2134 life. This is a special release of gaim. We will be releasing some wonderful
2135 photographs soon .. or perhaps if we get the bloody webcam working then we
2136 will take a couple of quick snapshots.

2137 Looks like the Gaim developers convention (cool name huh) that we |
0 | 2138 had this weekend in Auburn, AL went wonderfully :). yum yum yum. Hahahah. Oh |
2139 by the way. Beware of insecure rednecks in the deli. Bad things.
2140 In (non)related news, Jeramey could not successfully slaughter the
2141 one pound hamburger that he ordered. (I think he could have done it but he
2142 wasn't feeling very well at the time).
2143 Oh Yes, New Logo Too :) You likes? Thanks, Naru!
2144 Just a little side-note: it looks like we didnt make the release that
2145 we had expected during the Gaim Convention. Maybe we partied too much? I am
2146 not sure. I remember watching the sun rise before I went to bed, though.
2147 Oh well. Here's your release! Enjoy!
2148 By The Way, we have uploaded our party pictures to a website.
2149 http://www.dorky.net/gaim/party/ They are nothing spectacular but I hope you
2150 enjoy them! :). | |
2151 | |
2152 0.9.7: | |
2153 Well, boys and girls, it's that time again! Yup, time for the good
2154 release fairy to come bless us with her infinite wisdom and divine presence.
2155 Umm, yeah, something like that. Anyways, this release has several little
2156 "bad" network fixes (as Jim likes to say) and a couple touch-ups to a few
2157 other features. It also features preliminary oscar support. Thanks to Jim
2158 and Adam ("the libfaim guy") hehe :) We have also corrected a problem with
2159 gaim not wainting to correctly save your password if you have an underscore
2160 in it. Thanks to w1za7d for pointing out the underscore problem. ' and \
2161 have also been fixed in passwords. :o)
2162 | |
2163 0.9.6: | |
2164 Sorry about the little segfaulting bugs in the past release. Rob
2165 is stupid. :). Anyways, they have been patched up and a couple new features
2166 have been added. I hope you guys enjoy.
2167 | |
2168 0.9.5: | |
2169 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
2170 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
2171 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
2172 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
2173 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
2174 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
2175 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
2176 gotta love those pranks, eh?
2177 | |
2178 0.8.0: | |
2179 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
2180 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
2181 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
2182 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
2183 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
2184 want to get it out there.
