6658 | 10 Nathan: I didn't do much for this release, except make Jabber |
11 registration work, and put in a slight tweak to make Gaim work a
12 little better with jabberd2. Next release you'll all see what I've
13 been spending my time on, but for now enjoy the fruits of everyone

6681 | 16 Mark: I've been really busy with other stuff, but I've spent my |
17 Gaim-time on working towards a more formal translation process.
18 Hopefully this will result in Gaim shipping with more complete
19 translation files. Also, all our awesome translators are mentioned
20 in the about window now.

6134 | 89 Sean: Although I tend to go right here in the two slot in NEWS, |
90 we don't always commit in this order. This is the third time I've
91 rewritten this because the jerks below me keep commiting while I'm
92 writing causing mass conflictination. Grrr. Stupid jerks. Anyway,
93 this is Gaim 0.65. Like other Gaim releases, this allows you to
94 converse with people far away over the "Internet." That's about it.
95 It's really not that interesting. In fact, I wouldn't even bother
96 reading the other people's NEWS. It's all boring. There's some
97 crap about forest fires and fangs and claws. It's really boring.
98 Great, now Luke just committed NEWS causing more conflictination.
99 I wouldn't bother reading his either. Oh, and I don't want to thank
100 Megan (Cae) or Kevin (SimGuy). They're stupid jerks too. Grrr...
101 | |
6129 | 102 Mark: I actually did stuff for this release. Go me. I probably |
103 shouldn't speak for all of us, but I'm going to anyway: We feel that
104 this release is one of Gaim's best. It should be relatively bug
6135 | 105 free, and the code is cleaner than ever, thanks to lots of work by |
6129 | 106 Christian and Nathan. We had some help from a few civilians |
107 finding and fixing bugs. Thanks to Megan (Cae), Ka-Hing Cheung
6130 | 108 (javabsp), and Kevin Stange (SimGuy) for their work. Man, I was just |
6129 | 109 looking at Sean's NEWS entry for 0.64--that's talent. Also, stay |

6133 | 134 Luke: Wow! Finally releasing 0.65! Christian, Nathan, and Mark have |
135 worked really hard for this release, all the credit goes to them.
136 The new preferences are awesome, and there are more bugs fixed for
137 this release than in the last 3 or 4 releases. Your MSN should work
138 reliably again, your preferences saved, your accounts resort, the
139 list goes on and on. A couple preferences, most notably your buddy
140 list sorting preference won't be imported, but almost all of them
141 will be and its probly a good idea for you to take a second look
142 through preferences again anyway, alot of you are starting to

5196 | 252 Luke: I didn't do much here besides the odd translation patch and a couple |
253 bug fix patches. This is primarily a bug fix release, and much needed at
254 that. Didn't get a chance to write sorting code, work has been busy.
255 Hopeefully it will happen for 0.63.
256 | |
5197 | 257 Mark: Gaim is coming along quite beautimously. I'm going to eat |
258 my Pop-tarts now. | |
259 | |
5198 | 260 Nathan: oh dot sixty two. There are a lot of bugs fixed in this release, |
261 and one major new feature. Our Jabber plugin now supports XHTML-IM. In
262 plain english, this means that you can now format your jabber messages,
263 and other people will see the formatting. GtkIMHTML still needs some
264 work to get it to parse valid XHTML-IM better, but that will come in time.
265 That time would come sooner if my CS prof accepted "I was hacking on Gaim"
266 as a valid excuse for an extension ;-)
267 | |
5058 | 268 0.61 (04/07/2003): |
5059 | 269 Rob: Nathan commited his news first. However, I'm cooler so I'm putting |
270 my entry above his. Yeah, so, there were some DnD issues with 0.60. I
271 blame it on the rain. It was falling, falling. I blame it on the
272 faucet. It drips all night.
273 | |
5073 | 274 Sean: I committed my news after Rob. I'm cooler than Nathan (by far) but |
275 not as cool as Rob. So I go here. Actually, I didn't do anything since
276 0.60 other than commit some other peoples patches. The one from Dave Camp
5079 | 277 is cool. How 'bout this snow? Isn't that crazy? Oh, and thanks to |
278 everyone who wished me a happy birthday.
5073 | 279 |
5058 | 280 Nathan: You want frequent releases? You got 'em ;-) Chip wrote some |
281 cool new pounce stuff, and things shouldn't get weird when you drag
282 groups and buddies around. It's bad enough having 1 of some of my
283 buddies on my list, I definitely don't need duplicates. Being that I
284 have class in the morning, I'll just raise my juice glass for this one.

306 to go out and buy a case of beer. My roommate is downstairs right

312 believe we're finally ready to relase 0.60. Many thanks to everyone
313 who helped out; I'm convinced that Gaim 0.60 is the best IM client to
314 date (only to be bested by 0.61). There's WAY too much stuff to mention.

357 nit picking. He likes to pick nits, nats, and umm, knots, I think.
3238 | 358 |
3243 | 359 Sean: This release has a long ChangeLog. Higlights include an |

361 Not *much* cooler than 0.57--but we're making progress ;)
362 | |

365 | |
3173 | 366 0.57 (04/25/2002): |
3180 | 367 Rob: Not too much in this release, as Sean said below. (This is |
368 what happens when the bottom person goes first.) New translation,
369 a few fixes, secure msn hotmail logins, blah blah blah. As Sean
370 said, the next release will be cooler. If only you could read
371 our minds ;-). | |
372 | |
3179 | 373 Sean: Nothing too special here, but a critical Yahoo fix that |
374 ensures Yahoo! will work when they discontinue the old protocol
375 all the other 3rd party clients are using. Next release will be
376 cooler, I promise. | |
3173 | 377 |
3144 | 378 0.56 (04/11/2002): |
379 Rob: Well, what do you know. I have another headache. I always have
380 these damned headaches. I got pissed off with the way GtkTree looks.
381 I wanted to move to using GtkCTree. I think they're pretty.
382 Unfortunately, GtkCTree sucks. After a little digging through
383 the code, I managed to molest GtkTree into looking like
384 GtkCTree. Thanks to everyone that helped track down that one
385 annoying style problem.
386 | |
387 Sean: Hello. This is another minor release while Rob and I finish
388 up on some bigger projects. We're reworking a lot of the UI to make
389 it easier to use, nicer looking, and more compatible with gtk2.
390 I've also been trying to bring the Yahoo plugin up to date, so it
391 will work for Indian users and avoid a potential problem in the near
392 future. | |
3114 | 393 |
3113 | 394 0.55 (03/29/2002): |
395 Rob: 0.55 is here. I've been away for a few days on business. Sean
396 has been on Spring Break. Therefore, this release is mostly a patch
397 release. It does fix some bugs and makes a few thing slightly cooler,
398 so it's better in that aspect, I suppose. Enjoy.
399 | |
3110 | 400 Sean: This is mostly a bugfix release. I'm on Spring Break, not |
401 doing any coding at all. But lots of people sent in great patches
402 anyway. Thanks guys!
3058 | 403 |
3053 | 404 0.54 (03/14/2002): |
405 Rob: Well, here we are. 0.54. We got a lot of fun things in this
406 release. Better working SSI, Image sending, protocol specific
407 smiley faces, and a whole lot of triscuits. *gobble*
408 | |
3054 | 409 Sean: We fixed a lot of bugs in this one, and probably introduced |
410 a bunch too. ;) We were both really busy, and did all the coding
411 late at night when we were tired, so if something isn't working,
412 it's probably just tired code. Enjoy the triscuits!
2994 | 413 |
2993 | 414 0.53 (02/28/2002): |
415 Rob: Well, we missed yesterday's release. That's Okay, I head a
416 nasty headache. You can all just deal. ;-)
417 | |
418 | |
419 Sean: Neat Goodies! Whee!! Oscar got a lot of great additions.
420 It can do Screen Name formatting, it can save and store your buddy
421 list on the server, it can do typing notifications in Direct
422 Connections, and yes, it can receive IM Images! Sending images will
423 be added in the next release. MSN and Yahoo! can do typing
424 notification too. Hooray!
425 | |
2978 | 426 |
2961 | 427 0.52 (02/17/2002): |
2965 | 428 Rob: Well, after a long delay we're finally ready for another release. |
429 I finally got settled into my new apartment, the new job is going
430 well, and I finally have internet connectivity again. You can expect
431 us to be back on our usually bi-monthly schedule. Enjoy these fixen,
432 as they resolve a few connectivity issues. :-)
433 | |
434 Sean: It looks like things are back on track now. Eric left which is
435 sad. He's done so much for Gaim, and I know we're all thankful.
436 Thanks Eric! I'll be stepping in and do more development, but I can
437 never replace Eric. This release fixes a long-standing problem in
438 MSN. If you've gotten errors when trying to connect to MSN, you want
439 this release. If you've suddenly found yourself unable to connect to
440 Yahoo!, you want this release too. The "neat goodies" will be in the
441 next release ;) | |
442 | |
2967 | 443 Rob: Operation Evil does not exist! ;-) |
2961 | 444 |
2935 | 445 |
2933 | 446 0.51 (01/24/2002): |
2934 | 447 Rob: Well, here we go. I FINALLY got around to making a release |
448 after over a month, Sorry for the delay, all. Things got really
449 hectic around the gaim house hold. This release isn't as complete
450 as I had hoped, but I promised to get something out. There's some
451 neat goodies in mind for the next release, right Sean? :-)

1289 | 798 0.11.0-pre1 (12/03/2000): |
1199 | 799 Rob: Hey guys! Guess what!? Yup, you're correct! It's the pre1 |
800 release of 0.11.0. We have all sorts of goodies in this release!
801 Check out the ChangeLog file. As always if you find any bugs,
802 please report them on www.sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/
1195 | 803 |
804 You may find several small bugs as this is still a prerelease.
1192 | 805 |
1199 | 806 You may want to note that my IRC plugin does not have full |
807 functionality as of yet. All of the important / commands will be
808 added before the final release. Also, if someone could send me
809 some good buddylist pixmaps for the irc plugin then I'd much
810 appreciate it. Thanks to everyone who made this new release possible!
1194 | 811 |
1195 | 812 If you have any ideas, comments, or suggestions, please let us know |
1199 | 813 either by e-mail or via the source forge message board at the URL |
814 above. :) | |
1194 | 815 |
1192 | 816 |
1195 | 817 Eric: So what was Yay! For Gaim!? Yay was the codename for the |
818 Yahoo plugin. The whole point of all of these changes was I wanted to
819 make a proof-of-concept plugin that would let Gaim sign into Yahoo. It
820 turned out to be pretty much impossible with the old code. So,
821 Rob and I hacked gaim so we could do just that. There's now a whole new
822 class of plugins, Protocol Plugins, that let users dynamically add new
823 protocols to Gaim. Just load the plugin, and create a new account that
824 uses that protocol, and you're set! Yay! (Oscar and TOC are both still
825 static. Gaim is, after all, primarily an AIM client.)

293 | 991 Rob: Go Watch `Road Trip'. |
992 | |
170 | 993 0.9.15: |
219 | 994 Hey boy's and girls. There's not much to say here this time. |
995 We're loving Southern California, the new job's going great. We just
996 got our company website up and the product development is going pretty
997 smooth. Life's pretty sweet now.
998 | |
999 We've hacked up all kinds of goodies for you in 0.9.15. There's
1000 some file transfer (receive) support for those of you who have been
1001 wanting it for a while. There's some other misc. goodies tossed in as
1002 well. Enjoy!! Oh yeah, we need a new website. Come up with a sweet
1003 design and get in touch with me. The current site is at:
1004 http://www.marko.net/gaim
1005 | |
1006 Thanks much! | |

76 | 1009 0.9.14: |
104 | 1010 Well, there's a few random hacks and fixes in here, along with |
1011 a little suprise. You guessed it, kiddos, support for plugins! Happy
1012 hacking! | |
76 | 1013 |
56 | 1014 0.9.13: |
69 | 1015 Not much to say for this release. Bug fixes, That's all. Look |
1016 for the goodies I promised in 0.9.13 to appear in 0.9.14 which should be
1017 released very soon now.
56 | 1018 |
71 | 1019 By the way, our CVS is now hosted over at source forge. Go check |
1020 it out at http://www.sourceforge.net. Please check there before submitting
1021 any bug reports (You can read our CVS comments to see if we have fixed any
1022 problems). | |
1023 | |
7 | 1024 0.9.12: |
25 | 1025 Well guys, looks like we got some nifty things in this version. |
1026 TrueType Fonts are supported for those XFSTT buffs out there (or whatever
1027 else you use). A crap load of those plaguing memory leaks have FINALLY been
1028 fixed. My brother, Jeramey, and a new friend Peter Teichan helped stomp
1029 those babies out. A rad guy by the name of Eric Warmenhoven has been
1030 really sweet lately and has all but rewritten the Gnome Applet support :).
1031 He submitted patch after patch. I finally got annoyed with him (just kidding bud)
1032 and gave him CVS access. Look for Gnome Applet support in Gaim to start improving.
1033 That's about all for now. I wanted to get this release out there. File Receive
1034 support will be in 0.9.13 which is due out soon.
7 | 1035 |
0 | 1036 0.9.11: |

1039 a new configuration format for Gaim. Looks like we're running .gaimrc |
0 | 1040 version 1 now. Gotta love it. I got bored and hacked in a couple font |
1041 properties that will, in time, contain more features. That's about it
1042 for this version -- cept for that memory leak we fixed. Shush! We're

1045 ** Extra special update **
1046 | |
1047 Well guys, it looks like we all stopped working on gaim, moved to California,
1048 and took up a new job. Don't worry though, those beach bums out here havent
1049 worn off on us yet. I've decided to pick up the Gaim torch myself and continue
1050 development ont he prohect. Hopefully we wont have any more five month braks in
1051 the project. Sorry about that, guys :)
1052 | |
1053 0.9.10: | |
1054 Umm. Dont ask. Silly memory leak. For those of you who
1055 wondered, you were losing about 256 bytes every 25 seconds for each
1056 person you have on your contact list. Make fun of us. Better yet ..
1057 Send us beer. We'll do better :)

1061 problems with Gaim working properly, please check out the FAQ file. It |
0 | 1062 contains a nice fix submitted by one of our users. I hope this works for |
1063 you guys! | |
1064 Jim appears to have intoxicated himself. This is, as always, a
1065 Good Thing (tm). His late-night adventure with the liquid-bread food group
1066 lead to the birth of a nice little feature called `The Lag-O-Meter'. Dont
1067 ask, just try it out :). It is pretty pointless if you have a super-fast
1068 connection but if you are a modem user, like many of us are, then try it out.
1069 There's also some idle preferences and some other little random
1070 bug fixes. Check'em out yo :)
1071 | |
1072 0.9.8: | |
1073 Get Along Lil' Doggies. Heh. Looks like we have yet another new
1074 version of gaim for you guys to play with. Be gentle now, it has a few
1075 new fetures. The HTML widget is now more robust and we have *da da da*
1076 HTTP proxy support.
1077 Oh By The Way, Do not pay too much attention to what we are doing
1078 with this release. We are all a little bit happy tonight. You must love
1079 life. This is a special release of gaim. We will be releasing some wonderful
1080 photographs soon .. or perhaps if we get the bloody webcam working then we
1081 will take a couple of quick snapshots.

1082 Looks like the Gaim developers convention (cool name huh) that we |
0 | 1083 had this weekend in Auburn, AL went wonderfully :). yum yum yum. Hahahah. Oh |
1084 by the way. Beware of insecure rednecks in the deli. Bad things.
1085 In (non)related news, Jeramey could not successfully slaughter the
1086 one pound hamburger that he ordered. (I think he could have done it but he
1087 wasn't feeling very well at the time).
1088 Oh Yes, New Logo Too :) You likes? Thanks, Naru!
1089 Just a little side-note: it looks like we didnt make the release that
1090 we had expected during the Gaim Convention. Maybe we partied too much? I am
1091 not sure. I remember watching the sun rise before I went to bed, though.
1092 Oh well. Here's your release! Enjoy!
1093 By The Way, we have uploaded our party pictures to a website.
1094 http://www.dorky.net/gaim/party/ They are nothing spectacular but I hope you
1095 enjoy them! :). | |
1096 | |
1097 0.9.7: | |
1098 Well, boys and girls, it's that time again! Yup, time for the good
1099 release fairy to come bless us with her infinite wisdom and divine presence.
1100 Umm, yeah, something like that. Anyways, this release has several little
1101 "bad" network fixes (as Jim likes to say) and a couple touch-ups to a few
1102 other features. It also features preliminary oscar support. Thanks to Jim
1103 and Adam ("the libfaim guy") hehe :) We have also corrected a problem with
1104 gaim not wainting to correctly save your password if you have an underscore
1105 in it. Thanks to w1za7d for pointing out the underscore problem. ' and \
1106 have also been fixed in passwords. :o)
1107 | |
1108 0.9.6: | |
1109 Sorry about the little segfaulting bugs in the past release. Rob
1110 is stupid. :). Anyways, they have been patched up and a couple new features
1111 have been added. I hope you guys enjoy.
1112 | |
1113 0.9.5: | |
1114 Well we added a myriad of new features to this release. (A lot of
1115 small buggie fixes too.) If you need a detailed list just check out the
1116 ChangeLog. We now have a new webpage design and have added a FAQ to the
1117 distribution. Before coming to us with any problems please take a quick
1118 look through the FAQ to make sure we havent already covered your question.
1119 Also, thanks to our beloved Web Monkey, FlynOrange, we have all
1120 learned the true power of foam weapons, slinkies, and whoopie cushions. Hmm
1121 gotta love those pranks, eh?
1122 | |
1123 0.8.0: | |
1124 Well, just starting the NEWS file. I'll try to remember what's new
1125 from the last version. Hmmm. BIG code reorg. Import/export, buddy pounce
1126 among the major new features. Autoconf script too, which is a big win.
1127 Apologies to those who submitted patches which haven't made it in.. I
1128 promise, the next version! This code reorg took up a lot of my time, and I
1129 want to get it out there.
